Dear Aphrodite, I’m being stalked by someone – I don’t know who or why. They come into my house when I’m not here, call and hang up, etc. I’ve even moved to a new city within my state, but they followed me. I’ve hired a private detective, but apparently there’s not much they can do. I feel like I’m going crazy! Can astrology shed light on my situation? – Anonymous
Dear Anon,
Before I delve into the astrology, we could all stand to be educated on this issue. Surprisingly, stalking is more common than any of us might think. According to this article, 1 in 20 women in the U.S. will be stalked at some point in their lives. But stalking doesn’t just apply to women. “In a survey of West Virginia college students 34 percent of women and 17 percent of men said they had been stalked.” What motivates such predatory behavior? We may think of spurned love when it comes to stalking, grudges and jealousy, but as often the motive can be relatively minor- like a business transaction gone bad. However, we all face things like this throughout life and resolve them in healthy ways. A stalker has severe psychological problems, so is potentially dangerous.
As such, your safety must be your number one concern. In the U.S. every state is different, so not all states offer the same protection (Victimsofcrime.org lists stalking laws by state). If your state cannot help you, my advice is to leave. When you’re in a situation that is outside of your control, you always have a choice in how to respond. Your situation is not that different from living with an abusive partner. For instance, if you had a friend living with a partner who was threatening their safety, the first thing you would tell him or her to do is leave. Everyone needs to feel safe where they live.
Astrologically, your natal 12th house Mars in Aries-Neptune in Scorpio opposition is being transited by Uranus (thru Jan 2018).
While what’s happening for you certainly fits the darker textbook descriptions of what could happen with this configuration, let’s be clear upfront: Astrology did not cause this, and another person will have an entirely different experience of this transit.
However, there will always be an element of synchronicity with astrology. External events trigger a certain quality of inner experience, an awareness that wants to unfold, and that’s rich territory.
What would the deeper message of this event want you to address? With your 12th house Aries Mars, I’d ask you: Where have you allowed fear to dictate your choices? Are you acting like a hero or a victim in your life? Is there something you really want to do that you haven’t allowed your self to do? Are you stuck in the illusion that by leaving, they’d “win”? Your Mars is under developmental tension from Uranus, to wake you up from the Neptunian slumber of inaction, victim behaviour, illusions. Your Mars needs to experience a victory: For you to play the hero, not victim, role.
Again, no one invites victimization, and it’s not your fault that this is happening. Yet it’s another law of synchronicity that the more resistance and fear we have around honestly changing dysfunctional behavior and attitudes, the more dramatic the external event required to get us un-stuck.
The astrological opportunity is clear: change the way you’ve been relating to your Mars. With any Mars transit, it’s a time for fierce self honesty; that goes double for Uranus in Aries. Allow any anger or sense of injustice you feel, any insecurity and fear, fuel your decision to take radical action to protect your self. Do the above, stand in and really own your warrior-ess powers, and by the end of this transit you’ll never doubt your ability to be strong, and protect your self, again.
