Dear Flora, I’m in my early 30’s and haven’t been in a long term relationship, ever, really. I just finished a long period of completing my Master’s Degree and am ready to put my attention towards my love life. What would be a good way to approach my search for romance? Signed, Looking for Love
Dear Looking, First congratulations on the completion of your degree! That is a major accomplishment in your life, and a step that you probably needed to complete before you could really have the emotional and mental space to devote to a relationship. Looking at your natal chart, I see that you have Venus, the planet of love in the sign of Leo, and Mars, the planet of lust, in Scorpio. In “Astro-lingo” these two planets form what is known as a “square”, meaning they are making a 90 degree angle, which symbolizes tension, conflicts and irritation, but also creativity, possibility and movement. I would guess that even though you haven’t been in a long term relationship, you’ve probably had a fair share of shorter, passionate interactions.
This relationship signature in your chart shows that part of your “love work” is to find a way to integrate your need for fun, play and romance with your need for depth, intensity and a powerful emotional connection. Drama in past relationships (no matter how short), may have scared you off from re-entering the waters of love, as your own passion may have sometimes frightened you.
In order to start your journey towards the relationship you want, it will be important to release any old baggage you are carrying around from romantic encounters from your past. Do what you can to let go of old resentments, hurts, fears, jealousies and obsessions. Write letters to those who still hold a piece of your heart and burn them in a ritual dedicated to releasing the past and welcoming the love that is on its way towards you. This ritual can be particularly powerful to do on a waning moon, drawing on the power of the moon to guide your magic.
Flower essences that can support you as you open your heart again to love, are Holly, which will help you let go of any feelings of lack of love and help you open up to the spiritual love that is always around us. Sticky Monkeyflower can also help you to develop more understanding of how you integrate your heart (Venus in Leo) with your sexual feelings (Mars in Scorpio). These two together can give you a boost of growth that infuses your search for love with new energy and insights. Good luck as you open your heart once again! Flora’s emissary, Fern
