On July 22, Mars joined royal Jupiter to herald the birth of a prince. Though he entered the world with his Sun at the last degree of Cancer, Prince George’s arrival triggered the kind of ecstatic joy and adoration that’s pure Leo (and reflective of the Aquarius-Leo Full Moon a few hours later). The jubilant energy was over the top, especially in Britain, where people celebrated on every corner.
As depicted in the Rider-Waite Tarot, The Sun (ruler of Leo) represents a spark of new life–the Divine Child within. This is the true self behind our masks and personalities, the part of us that feels deeply alive, energetic, creative and fulfilled. And through the first half of August, while the Sun continues to illuminate the fiery, regal sign it rules, we’re encouraged to express that pure, innocent side of ourselves, the divine prince or princess who feels joy and sadness alike, lives without shame and delights in free self-expression and play.
The Leonine energy flares brightly at the August 6 Leo New Moon (2:51 p.m. PDT). Provocative Uranus in experimental Aries trines the Sun and Moon, lighting a spark that urges us off the couch toward more creativity and fun. Now the planets are supporting positive, progressive change. Perhaps the recent Grand Water Trine fired your imagination or loosened the emotional underpinnings that have kept you stuck. Now you can take the next step, however small, toward expressing your true self.
Here’s the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 15 Leo: “A pageant, with its spectacular floats, moves along a street crowded with cheering people.” We’re celebrating a spark of newness in some area of our lives. That place where things are stirring, perhaps after a long period of stagnation. In Leo we learn to open our hearts—to love and create. Where is the Royal Birth happening for you? The house in which the New Moon falls provides clues, but if you don’t know where 14-15 Leo is for you, just tune in to whatever feels most fun and enlivening. Mighty Jupiter opposing passionate Pluto on the 7th and communicative Mercury entering Leo on the 8th will help you express your power, truth and creative fire—just make sure you don’t overdo it!
