Mars Pluto Opposition

By Dana Gerhardt

wildfires-rage-in-californiaA senator kicks an angry protestor out of a town meeting. LA burns– an “angry fire” devouring dry brush with a vengeance. A model’s mutilated body is found in a dumpster. An anti-texting PSA, depicting a graphic head-on collision, goes viral. Around the world it travels: with its blood, screaming, and death. Good news: an abducted girl is found–after being held captive for eighteen years by a sex offender and likely serial killer. These are a few of the late August news stories, as the Mars/Pluto opposition, exact on August 26/27, is in orb.

Mars represents force; Pluto is power. When these two meet, there’s heat. Wills collide. And shadow stuff–violence, destruction, anger, obsession, sexual depravity–erupts into the headlines. But for most of the planet, Mars/Pluto is much less dramatic. A wife gives her husband the silent treatment. Two mothers get into a spat and forbid their children from playing together. A customer yells at an underpaid clerk. An irritated taxi driver narrowly avoids an accident. These don’t make the news. Nor do the countless positive and invigorating results of Mars and Pluto’s meeting. But take heart. Passion was renewed in various corners of the world. Babies were conceived. Someone stared down a bully and stood up for herself. Someone else woke up with renewed vigor and committed to a difficult project. How has your Mars been doing this past week? Get acquainted. Be aware that Mars goes retrograde in December. So face yourself now, find the better warrior of your nature, and get moving.

I find this time very interesting. I have a natal Mars opposition to Pluto ( Pluto conjunct Jupiter, all 3 t-square to the 12th house sun, also Chiron Mars conjunction. ).
Looks of opportunity to meet create dance with my warrior power self healing transformation.
    My life is never boring.
It has been interesting to watch the everyone experience what is a mild version of my daily life.

Yep, your description of the mars pluto opposition sounds right. I also stared down a bully who was offering to beat me and throw me around, and told him that I needed affection. He said that giving me affection was too much of a committment. So we broke up. He has a mars/pluto opposition in his prog chart (taurus-scorpio). I got mars/pluto conjunction in my birth chart.

Thank you. Perfect timing. I’ve been pondering how to navigate T.Pluto(3rd) opposite my Mars at 2 Cancer in 9th house. Also just had a Mars return just a few days ago, which I really decided to pay attention to and am feeling in a very positive way.

So this really spoke to me:

“Someone else woke up with renewed vigor and committed to a difficult project.”

Although not difficult projects, within just the last couple of days, I’ve initiated some exciting 9th house teaching/learning activities – more than I’ve done in MONTHS – maybe even YEARS. And I finally attracted some aspects of projects I’d been mentally thinking about for quite a while. They just appeared! My Mars in Cancer hasn’t always had the greatest vigor, and can get stagnant, so I’m grateful and intending to use the higher aspects of Pluto/Mars, which will be activated for a while.

QUESTION: Mercury Retrograde is coming up in a few days. I’m a Merc. ruled Sun, Merc. in Gemini in 8th house. How do we all navigate and balance the Merc. R period with the Pluto/Mars. In the past I haven’t usually personally felt many glitches from the Merc. Retrograde. But then a large part of my life is lived mostly quietly and internally in what I call my Happy Cave mode with a peek out from time to time.

I know Merc R is time to put ”RE” in front of everything. Now that I’m feeling that physical vitality, I don’t really want to put the brakes on the forward motion, but I do want to find a balanced rhythm

When Mecury is direct we march, when it’s retrograde we must dance… meaning, listen to the music and go with the indicated flow. If the music that’s playing is full of vitality, then proceed without worries!
