Two of the great financial plunges of the last century occurred at moments just like this. At the tail end of Saturn’s giddy ride through Sagittarius in 1929, a booming stock market crashed. The Great Depression followed as Saturn entered Capricorn. On “Black Monday,” the colossal market crash of October, 1987, Saturn was also in late Sagittarius. During the Saturn-in-Capricorn years that followed (1988-1991), the stock marked wobbled itself forward, but bank failures reached a post-Depression record. By the early 90’s, many of the world economies were in a deep recession.
Money is typically tight when Saturn goes through Capricorn. It’s no longer wise to soar into your future on the wings of hope alone. As a contracted, sober-eyed energy, Saturn in Capricorn tests the mettle of things. Among its various missions, each new zodiac sign aims to correct the imbalances of its predecessor. Now whatever isn’t solid or real, will fall back to earth. If you want to get on the good side of Capricorn Saturn, be responsible and sensible. Reduce your debt. Aim to grow your savings. Be concerned with the strength of your foundations.
Where Saturn leads, the culture follows. His influence in Sagittarius for the past 2.5 years has seen truth become so pliable, it seems to have disappeared. The Internet Tower of Babel drowns us in a cacophony of opinions. Saturn in the sign of the wanderer has seen perceptions of migrants become increasingly polarized. The stock market enjoys record highs–but the money is funny. Cornered by the few at the top, it’s disconnected from the financial health of the whole. It’s an odd and dangerous time to give historic tax cuts to the wealthy.
What goes up must come down. But not all of it will be bad. The last time Saturn was in Capricorn, the cold war melted, and the Berlin Wall fell, along with the Soviet Union. Leaders everywhere should test the floor boards underneath them now. Accountability is the powerful new watchword with Saturn in Capricorn (beginning December 19).
Already there are signs. In a backlash favoring traditional Capricorn values like civility and decency, the people of Alabama didn‘t send a pedophile to Congress. Another sign: the hearing for an unqualified candidate for a lifetime judge-ship went viral (turns out, he never tried a single case in court and was unfamiliar with the law). His appointment was denied, as were the appointments of two other unqualified candidates this past week. Power loves to hide its special favors in secrecy, so these are victories, though small ones. But keep looking. More are coming.

As we move towards the next Saturn Jupiter conjunction while the Solar cycle slows down over the next four to five years the global economy will most likely retract. We did a five year forecast that offers similar advice. People underestimate the effect of having the USA withdraw from the global community.
