This is a beautiful time to full on slow your life down. This is hard for many with the holidays approaching, but it can make a world of difference to your own well-being. The New Moon always gives us a chance to begin again. When it comes to the relationship we have with our bodies, this is such a gift.
To begin to feel out your embodiment of this New Moon, consider that the area of the body for Sag is from the lumbar spine to the thighs.
In both your movement and rest, try connecting to sensations from the upper legs through your hips. Are you holding tension in your quads or hamstrings and the surrounding tissues? How do the tissues-muscles-bones all around your pelvis feel, and especially in connection to your lower back?
Reclined Half-Butterfly and Saddle Poses
Begin by lying down on your back. It could be helpful to have some props around you: a block for under your head, and/or a bolster/pillow for under your back.
Bring your knees into your chest and try taking your hands under your knees to hold the back of your thighs. It might be helpful here to have a block or support under the back of your head. Mentally scan your upper legs through the pelvis to listen for insight in your current body situation. Hold for anywhere from a few deep breaths to a few minutes.
Next you might try to extend one leg out from your pelvis and bend the other knee so that the knee is moving out to the side (in a half butterfly shape). This is reclined half butterfly. Rest with your legs in this set up for as long as you are comfortable on each side. In the photo, I have a bolster propped up under my spine, which could help keep your back + hips more comfortable. **
Finally, you might then also try reclined half saddle pose. This is where instead of taking the knee out to the side, you would bend the knee back. This targets the top of the thigh more instead of the inner thigh. It can be too much for those of you with knees that are sensitive, so stay mindful when trying it out. If you do try it, you might bring your hands to the top of your pelvis or low back to hold yourself with care and check in with the feelings that arise.
** For Reclined Half Butterfly: If you have a trusted loved one or friend around, you might also try having that person take gentle body weight/pressure into your thigh (as shown in the photo). This is a Thai Massage move that can feel really nice and might be supportive for this shape.
