A few weeks ago my inbox was flooded with spiritually-minded emails suggesting prayers and visualizations for healing the Gulf of Mexico. I haven’t seen many since. When I ask my spirtually minded friends how their healing attempts have gone, their eyes go curiously vacant. It seems that more of them have thought about doing it than are actually doing it.
I understand. The scale of this ecological disaster is so huge, it’s difficult to take ourselves into its center. But I’ll share what I’ve experienced, as it puzzles and surprises me. The first time I tuned in, I found myself eye-level with the water, surrounded by drops of oil. This happened for several days. Sometimes the weather was sunny. Sometimes there were clouds. I gathered I was there to simply sit with the situation, like sitting with a friend at the hospital. I listened to the lapping sound of the water, then returned to my livingroom. In further visits, I was eye-to-eye with oil-covered birds or with fish swimming in oil. This was frightening and I wanted to back out. But in their eyes I saw such fear and confusion, I got the courage to remain. This seemed important, to be calm and reassuring as they died. This too happened for several days, until I found myself surrounded by black. I was deeper, within the oil. The oil itself seemed confused, not knowing where it was. I found myself encouraging it to find the ones who wanted to contain it. I don’t know if that was right. Lately, I’ve found myself above the water, mostly in cloudy skies, looking at idle boats. I’m not sure what this means or what I’m supposed to do. I just keep tuning in, offering my heart, and hoping that others are doing the same.
Does it matter? Does it really help? I have no idea. I just keep going where intuition sends me. I’d love to hear what’s happening for you.

Re the animals. One thing that helps me is that I believe in reincarnation, and I believe that animals re-embody, and I believe that they do it pretty fast. I like your being there w them, it will make it easier for them to look forward to coming back, maybe.

Dear Dana and all, Thanks for what each of you are doing… especially those of you who can go into the midst, eye to eye, with your prayers and love into the depths so life there is not alone in this journey… especially those in pain and suffering and death…
my experience is a little different… (perhaps because I am midwifing the journey of my Dad’s approach to Death in his late stage Alzheimer’s here in the family home) what I am experiencing is the image of being linked with many others in the space above earth holding the earth much the same way a mother will hold a newborn… we are linked in prayer and love to soothe the fires of fear as our new world is reborn… And all are heart connected throughout, from the outer atmospheres deep into the tiniest cells, with the Divine in all Life… I read where someone would send a prayer out each time she heard the clock chime the hour… Someone else at traffic lights… Dana your Cancer New Moon call to prayer expressed the need and opportunity beautifully…
Still what each of us does, even without a specific focus, no matter how seemingly small, such as the thankyou or the smile in a crowded stressed out line of fearful people, what each of us does in each moment of now to act out of our love and not react out of our fears is having huge ripple effects…
And on that note… Happy Happy Anniversary Mooncircles! Thanks Dana and all the other writers you have attracted to your site for all the many gifts of inspiration and encouragements over these 10 years… Love and Blessings… -=Terry=-

It is easy to get discouraged. A tip that helped me was to make my sessions short. Go often, but don’t stay long at any one time.

Easy to forget…In May,Sam, the Golden Retriever, got shaved, I got a short hair cut, friends dropped off bags of pet hair in my cubby…The French-speaking post office lady and I shared the common language of tears as we sent the hair all the way from Quebec to Mobile, Alabama. Every noon, when the kids had left my little classroom, I prayed. Then, the capping failed and I caved. It was too painful to think about. I just didn’t want to know…but I must return to regular prayer. Thank you for the wakeup call, Dana….

Dear Dana…..A friend of mine who is an astrologer sent me a link to your blog this morning..I am enjoying checking it out.
On the Gulf, I have had some similar experiences. I have been meditating for the Gulf since this happened. I used to be a boat captain (shrimp boat and tug boats believe it or not!) for 11 years and made my living in the Gulf primarily. I am really feeling this. Plus I live in Florida.
I have also found, like you that many people have good intentions but don’t act on them as far as holding love and healing for the Gulf.
I would like to share with you the notes from the group meditation and healing sessions I have conducted since May 14th.
When I started the meditations the Nature energies asked that we continue for at least 90 days and hold the vision of a pristine Gulf for at least 5 minutes per day. The guidance I got suggested using beautiful pictures of the ocean to assist in holding that vision if anyone needed it.
I don’t know if you want to post this but here is the link to the notes for all the sessions. The group healing sessions are free and are focused on healing our connection to Nature. The meditation is for blessing water and holding love for the Gulf. I send out instructions for those who need guidance and notes after the sessions each week.

Oh heavens…people are reading your blog. 🙂
I’m 250 miles from Mobile, Alabama. I’ve smelled the oil a couple of times. About the time frame you mentioned, I suddenly became “stopped up” physically and could not for the life of me figure out why. It happened within just a few hours. And I mean it was as though every fluid system in my entire body stopped, saliva, digestion, every.single.one. I’ll be 50 in December. Never experienced any such thing before in my life.
In about 24 hours, I got an email from a friend that contained suggestions for visualizations he had gotten from a friend of his overseas. I had to laugh because then it all made sense. I telephoned him about it and he determined that what would be useful would be for everyone to concentrate their energetic efforts *from the coastline outward*.
Everybody’s efforts to stop the oil had apparently been picked up also by sensitive ol’ ME! We had a good laugh.
It did take a good 3 weeks or so for me to get my body back to some normalcy but now it’s stopped up again. Even my tears have stopped.
People are precious beyond words. You’ll all never know how much we appreciate your love and care for the Gulf of Mexico.
Tune energetic efforts from the coastline outward!
