From the “Moon Lovers” series
by Dana Gerhardt
“Not too long ago I would have laughed at anyone who said facials were a necessity. But especially on a Libra moon, we must remember we are not machines. We need to treat our bodies like the gods and goddesses they truly are.” Our Libra moon lover asks that you meet her at the spa today. Reclining on a massage table, her face painted in a lovely scented treatment, her head wrapped in towels, her voice is as soothing as the music playing in the background. “During Libra’s moon any beauty treatments will be more noticeable and last longer. Plant a rosebush on this moon and its roses will be unrivalled for their beauty. If you get a sudden decorating inspiration, you should act on it! Oh, and drink lots of water: Libra rules the bladder and kidneys. Cleansing them is especially healing today.” As the facial artist settles you back, your moon-loving friend begins talking. “We should think of the goddess Themis today. Her gifts are Libra’s too—equanimity, justice, and common sense. The gods turned to Themis whenever the peace of Mt. Olympus was broken. Persephone and Aphrodite got in a terrific cat fight once. They had both mothered Adonis, but when he became a handsome young man, they fought over him. Themis weighed the matter carefully, put herself in each person’s shoes, then delivered a marvelously balanced solution: Adonis would spend a third of the year with one mother, a third with the other, and a third of the year on his own. Peace was restored, and Zeus created the constellation of Libra—the balanced scales—in gratitude to Themis. It’s said the air itself remembers Themis on Libra moon days—being light, balanced, neutral. Can you sense it? I always try to let this peaceful grace soak in.” And now so can you.

More Libra Strategies

Create a mood for intimacy when the Moon is in Libra by buying flowers with a pleasing scent that will waft subtly throughout the house. This is a good time to purchase a beautiful new outfit, sensuous sheets, or items to make your home lovelier. Be sure to give the house a good cleaning and get rid of clutter to create more space, literally and symbolically, for love to enter. A serene home lays the foundation for a romantic life. Are you touching the Moon?
It’s one thing to read about the Moon, but another to tune into her with energetic sensitivity. The first method is mental; the second is sensuous and intuitive (which is of course the preferred way to grasp the Moon). Lunar intuition is a natural ability that can be developed with practice. Developing mine, I was inspired by a friend’s report of spending an idyllic summer in the forest. Nestled in nature, without the chaos of the competing mechanical rhythms, her sensitivity became so refined, she felt it whenever the Moon changed signs.
Nature is everywhere. Even in our concrete and cyber jungles, we can sense her influence. At least once with the Moon in this sign, give yourself a 15-minute luxury of stillness. Quiet your thoughts. Observe the energy—how are things moving? Tune into the texture of the atmosphere floating around you. Feel its sensation on your skin. Describe what you feel, even if it’s so subtle you think you’re making it up. Over time your sensitivity and discernment will increase. In a month, you sense this sign again.
An air sign Moon, key qualities for Libra are hot and moist. Think of a rain forest, teeming with activity, ripe with odors, its green forest leaves busily returning oxygen to the air. When moisture meets heat, there is movement. Think of blood circulating through your veins, air moving in and out of your lungs, sound and scents traveling on the wind. Air sign days feel lighter than other days; fresh, alive, in motion. Your eyes may be drawn skyward, to the flight of a bird, leaves rustling in the wind. Your thoughts may be nimble or restless. Train your senses on movement.
“Sometimes it is said that the signs of Libra and Aquarius have little connection with nature and the world of plants, but this is not quite right. On days when the moon is in Libra or Aquarius, it is important to consciously grant nature some rest. Avoid the watering of indoor plants, for example. But all flowers and flowering plants indoors and outdoors may now be planted and cultivated. This is a good time to remove wilted leaves, dead shoots, and weeds.” ~ Sabine Heideweg
