The Secret to Successful Timing with Astrology

Dear Dana,
Is there a good date astrologically in the next week or so for me to mail a letter of closure—for a love relationship I’ve been holding onto?  Energetically I need to let go, but it’s so very hard, I’m seeking guidance from the cosmic skies. Thanks, Rosie

Dear Rosie,
If you’re wanting closure and you’d like your release to last, pick a Scorpio moon. Dark moons are also strong.  Yet it’s never a good time if you’re still struggling.  Astrology can’t make you ready when you’re not. Love yourself and start where you are.  Ask for the willingness to let go first. Then the heavens align. The right time will appear.  Dana

The best day to do anything is the day you’re fully ready to do it.  And by that I mean when your heart is in the game. The mind can talk itself in and out of anything. But not the heart.  Good astrology dates are ripe with potential. But you have to ignite this potential and draw it your way.  To do this there’s only one instrument.  Go below the neck, into your heart.

Scientists acknowledge that the heart—with its 40,000 neural cells and an electromagnetic field that’s 60 times larger and 5000 times more intense than the brain’s—is also a seat of intelligent consciousness.  People regularly think with their hearts.  This is how the human body works.

The intelligence in your heart is a direct below-the-neck experience–that you can also develop and make more conscious. Breathe into this space. Over time observe your heart, its pulses and songs. Start developing a relationship—as you would with a good friend. When it comes to timing something important, you’ll want your heart on board.

The Trick is Resonance

Let’s say you’ve met someone interesting online.  You’ve been chatting via zoom for a couple weeks and it’s been fun. You’re both ready for a first date–a nice time to get the heavens involved. What’s the best day for your first actual encounter?

Astrologers would say choose a Libra moon, or lacking that, a day when the Moon and Venus are in favorable aspect.  This will amplify feelings of pleasure, conviviality, and connection, emotions that can build joy and attraction.  Friday is traditionally a Venus day, which is also good—and not surprisingly, it’s popular for dates.

Whatever you choose—Libra Moon, Moon Venus aspect or Friday—keep in mind this is a universal influence.  It floats in a sea of other influences and is available to all.  It cannot single you out and zap your date with magic.  It helps to think of a good astro-influence as being like a small bell ringing in the middle of a noisy intersection. You have to focus and tune in or you’ll miss it.

This is an essential magical skill that gets better with practice. The goal is to draw your heart into the receptive feminine Libra/Moon/Venus wavelength.  To do this, you awaken positive expectations that include curiosity, a willingness to be charming and receive the other, to be kind, harmonious and joyful, to have a good time.  Of course, being “nice & harmonious” confirms the dreary cultural stereotypes of the Divine Feminine.  Most women have learned to play or fake these notes on first dates.

But for making magic, you want to go underneath the stereotype, into the raw energy of the divine.  To resonate, you must awaken true feelings, as these will alter your electromagnetic field.  You become like another bell ringing in the intersection–playing the same Libra/Moon/Venus tune.  Aligning your heart this way brings you into resonance with the universal influence.  You become like two tuning forks–which amplifies the vibration and increases your chances for success.

Let’s say there’s a big important purchase you need to make.  Astrologers like Taurus moons for this, as well as days with positive Moon/Venus aspects.

Maybe you’re buying a house and you want an auspicious date to sign the papers.   Taurus is another Venus-blessed moon that offers the qualities you want in a long-term possession.  Its frequency is peaceful, solid, loyal, comfortable and pleasure-giving. It’s the sign most passionate about the material world.

But—oh no!  The papers won’t be available until the tail end of the Taurus moon, when the moon will be void of course, and you have just two hours before it enters Gemini.   Now you’re frantic–exactly the opposite of the end result you desire.  Your heart is pounding and your mind is racing.  Clearly this isn’t an auspicious time for you.  You can’t receive its potentials.

When you can’t sync up with the perfect astrological moment, relax.  Just go toward the auspicious vibration.  Let your heart feel like a Taurus moon–peaceful, solid, comfortable and ready for pleasure.  Your angels and guides will join in.  With your heart so filled, they can’t resist.  They become your second tuning fork, amplifying your intentions, and helping to assure your success.

The Role of the Mind

Bear with me. I want to discuss pigeons for a minute. It seems they have social hierarchies just like we do. Theirs depends on weight. It’s the heavier birds who get top access to food and mates. Scientists at the University of London recently wondered, “What would happen if you made lightweight birds feel heavier?”

They attached little weighted backpacks to the birds at the bottom of the hierarchy. Quickly these became more aggressive; they won more fights. The real heavyweights fought back at first, but then gave up and let the backpacked birds rule the coop.

Even in the bird kingdom, perception counts for a lot. If somebody feels invincible, there’s a good chance they will be. In human circles, this is what we call the power of positive thinking. We trick ourselves into believing what we want to be true is actually true. Yet there’s a limit to this kind of magic.  It wears off.   It’s easy to drop the spell.

When the scientists took off the little weighted backpacks, the birds’ bravado vanished. The lightweight pigeons went back to their usual place at the bottom of the pecking order. The same happens with us if we work with the mind alone.  We might think we’re invincible–but soon enough, we might start thinking we’re not.

That’s why—for the right timing of anything—we work with the heart.  After learning a few basic astrology correspondences, this is the secret.  To time things successfully in this authentically magical world, we must awaken the participation of the heart. **

Astrology Correspondences

Moon signs aren’t the only way we time auspicious activities.  Astrologers will consider aspects between the planets on a particular day—and how this picture interacts with your chart. This sounds more specific and technical—but it basically works the same way that Moon signs do—through resonance.

Astrology timing is not a science. So don’t worry about getting it wrong. Nobody ever studied bank accounts opened under a Taurus moon against those opened in Sagittarius.  Yet every astrologer will assure you that accounts opened in Taurus will be more prosperous.  Moon sign magic is an art of energy and imagination.

That means the possibilities are endless.  Here are a few to start you thinking.

** I should warn you, mine is not the typical view.  Most astrologers will tell you that the magic is in the moment–not within you!   These are good astrologers, ones I respect.  Yet their view has always seemed strange to me, as it just doesn’t match my life experience.  But I encourage you to investigate.  If you can make sense of the usual astrology methods–and if you can regularly make magic with them–let me know!
