“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” –George Eliot
Many years ago, I turned down a job that would have given me an exotic, international life. I’ve often wondered what things would have been like if I had gone down that path. What fabulous country would I be living in? What wonderful creative friends might I have made? Would I have found that perfect-for-me mate who has eluded me up till now? And is it too late to make those things happen?
Mary Ann Evans (better known as George Eliot) believed that it’s never too late to go after your dreams. Hailed as one of the best novelists of the Victorian age, the author of Middlemarch also applied her keen intelligence to editing a radical journal during a time when women were expected to keep their opinions to themselves. Told she’d never marry because she was too plain, she nevertheless forged two loving, if unconventional, unions. A determined Scorpio, Evans followed her heart and broadened her world.
How about you? Are you following your heart? If not, the upcoming Aquarius Full Moon (August 15, 5:29 a.m. PDT) can bring you the clarity, support and inspiration to do so. This Full Moon, falling only four days after Jupiter turns direct on August 11, brings the bigger picture into focus and provides the energy and enthusiasm to believe we can make our dreams come true. Yet change agent Uranus (the modern ruler of Aquarius) turns retrograde on the same day that Jupiter goes forward. This means we must free ourselves from internal prisons (lack of self-confidence, unwillingness to ask for support, being stuck in the past) so we’re able to make those big changes once Uranus turns direct in early January.
I heard one astrologer refer to this Full Moon as a time of “divine discontent,” and I wouldn’t disagree. On one hand, as the Moon in clever Aquarius opposes a close conjunction of the Sun and Venus in loving Leo, we’re able to join mind and heart in order to weave a web of protection and positive change for ourselves and the wider world. On the other hand, we’re challenged to release internal blockages and trust as things unfold.
So at this Full Moon, ask yourself: What dream have I been holding in my heart? Then brainstorm about ways to make it happen. Experiment with potentials and play with possibilities. By August 17 Mars shifts into nuts-and-bolts Virgo, quickly followed by the Sun and Venus. That’s the time to make a detailed plan, especially at the auspicious August 30 New Moon.
As for me, I’m playing with the possibility of pursuing my long-delayed dream of an exotic, international life, which could involve living overseas. I’ll begin next spring by revisiting the south of France, a place I fell in love with 36 years ago. My Cancer planets are quaking at the idea of leaving my cozy home and familiar turf. But I’m not getting any younger – and neither are you! Truly, it’s never too late for us to become what we might have been.
