Ask the Oracle – December 16, 2009

By Julia Bondi

An apology and explanation is in order for my December 2nd full moon vision of a people’s bailout. The concept of strengthening the financial system by empowering the people as directly as the government has done for the banks was and is a vision I embrace, a vision worth considering. What I had not thought through was the math which was wrong as I left out an all important decimal point. Fortunately, a reader pointed this error out to me nearly immediately; unfortunately, I could not reach everyone who read my piece to correct the numbers I suggested. I will supply new, accurate numbers (very briefly) for the full moon of December 31st before offering my insights for that eclipse. Most of us feel we, America, and the world are at a crossroads in history. World astrology supports our sense of the crucial nature of these years whose decisions and actions will shape not only the 21st century but the millennium we have entered. I am offering my thoughts on how astrology can illuminate the events and consciousness of this potent time. Naturally I have my own political, social and spiritual beliefs. The ideas and insights in this forum are not left/right, liberal/conservative or right/wrong; they are astrological insights about our times which I believe we as United States and world citizens can benefit from considering.

: Both my girlfriend and I were born on 11/20. I was born in 1977 and she in 1983. We have only been together 6 weeks but it feels like 6 years. From the moment we met there was an instant connection which has only deepened with time. We seem to understand each others feelings without communication; simply expressing the nature of a thought suffices for an explanation because one already knows what the other wants to say. We have heard of love at first sight and soul mates but this almost seems to transcend common relationships and we clearly have a connection on a much deeper level neither of us can comprehend. It has been an incredibly intense experience so far and I speculate that it will only continue to intensify as her walls come down and her insecurities from past relationships and traumas are fortified. The full moon in November was a very odd day filled with extreme highs and lows for both of us throughout the day, with passionate zeniths and angry nadirs in the evening occurring almost concurrently. Fortunately, through some reflection, I was able to identify a destructive pattern in our relationship which seems to follow peak happiness with a need to destroy it based on feeling she doesn’t deserve to be so happy thus she finds a way to crash the blissful state. Do you think that two signs who are so close can work through these tough times early on in the relationship in order to produce an unbelievable bond and synergy for the future? CW

Astrologers frequently notice that Scorpios often gravitate to one another as friends, lovers and spouses because no one understands a Scorpio like another Scorpio. Any relationship between two Scorpios is going to be intense because that is what they want, what they create and how they grow, but how much is too much? Since you two were born different years the rest of your planets are quite different leaving more than enough space for support, complementing one another and finding harmony as well as healing. Though you did not have more than a general birth time for your lady, the planetary connections are clear. You are both Scorpio Suns, you both likely have Leo rising (you do, she may for an evening birth), you both have Pluto/Moon aspects (you have Pluto opposite your Moon, she has Pluto quincunx her Moon), you both have Moon/Uranus aspects (you have Uranus quincunx your Moon, she has Uranus opposite her Moon), you have Mercury conjunct Neptune while she has Mercury conjunct Uranus. There is much more but what is clear is how intense your individual charts are by planetary aspect which would surely draw you to one another but would make everything extremely high and low. Your Saturn squares her Moon and your Pluto conjuncts her Venus which gives you tremendous power in her feelings and her life but this is also scary and naturally triggers her defenses. Her Saturn conjuncts your Venus and squares your Mars affecting you in much the same way. There were also quite intense aspects in your individual charts when you met as one would expect. This meeting and connection was no accident or coincidence as I am sure you know. Can it last, is it healthy and do either of you want to live at this level of intensity? Obviously, only the two of you can answer that question but I think it would be very challenging with so much similarity, so much power and so much triggering. If you want to make this work, I would suggest you seek some assistance from a transpersonal therapist who would be both willing and able to consider your charts. If you could live this connection consciously it would be amazing but either way you will have truly changed one another’s lives. Due to the mutuality of the aspects between your charts, both of you will need to see your own defenses, fears, and aspirations. Good luck!

I was born February 12, 1973. I have been a seeker for most of my life. After an exceptionally traumatic dark night of the soul in 1994, it seemed like I was going steadily in the direction of learning and practicing a spiritual path that involved meeting people who were on the same path, learning healing techniques and living a life filled with spirit. Now, however, I feel like I have come to a halt. In all areas, from career to relationships to weight problems, it all feels like a dead-end. Is there an explanation, from a planetary point of view, for this time of nothingness? Is there reason to believe that things will be changing for the better? I am hoping that if I can understand astrologically what it happening I will be able to bring some magic back into my life. RR

One of the benefits of astrology is an understanding of the meaning of seemingly incomprehensible events or shifts in our lives. At least if we understand a time period we know the challenge begins at a particular time and ends at a particular time; it has a purpose which we can embrace; and there are meaningful approaches to working with the energy of any time period. What astrology cannot provide is a way to avoid experiencing a challenging time. You, quite rightly, asked for an explanation and a way to reenergize your life. In 1994, transiting Pluto was squaring your Sun in Aquarius demanding that you surrender who you had been and reemerge as an independent, transpersonal woman who would devote her life to a larger, spiritual purpose. It was a dark, traumatic time though that darkness led you to the bright future you have enjoyed since that time. Now transiting Pluto is squaring your natal Mars which is located in your 6th house of work and rules your 7th house of relationships leading us to expect this to be another dark time most noticeable in your work and relationships. The 6th house is also the house of health which would highlight any imbalances in your body and their physicals effects such as your weight. Mars is our desire nature, what we want, what motivates us, our sexuality, how we seek to get what we desire, any irritations we feel or may have suppressed, our anger emanating from the present and the past and our energy level. Clearly Mars is much more including the activation principle in our lives which is where you have been halted. Nothing is moving as Pluto has shut down the motion and movement in your life in order for you to be able to create more consciously, more powerfully and with ever more surrender to what your soul intentions are. Transiting Pluto began its square to your Mars in March and will complete that aspect in November 2010. The first portion of a transit is usually the hardest period since we are surprised, unsettled, and unsure and, perhaps, fearful of the new events and feelings we are experiencing. As we adjust to this different time, come to a better understanding (and with Pluto a surrender to what is) of what is happening and how we feel, we can begin to respond with a new awareness and trust which begins a transformation to a more empowered self and life. With transiting Mars moving into retrograde motion on December 20th for several months, this is an ideal time for you to search your inner masculine, your history with men, sexuality, energy, power, desire and all the ways you have actively engaged your life. In the spring when Mars moves to direct motion again, I think you will feel that your life is beginning to move again. Note that this Mars retrograde will take place in your 10th house of career, accomplishment and contribution. Is it time for your work to take off at a new level of spiritual commitment and calling?

Astrologers use a variety of house systems, or methods of dividing up the sky into twelve sections. I use the Porphyry house system; another popular house system is Placidus (this is the default on https://astro.com). If the chart I send you looks different from what you are used to seeing, then likely a system other than Porphyry was used. Whole signs, Equal House, Regiomantus, and Campanus are examples of other systems. If you find all of this confusing, do not worry. It is likely not critical to your report.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
