Ask the Oracle – January 15, 2014

By Julia Bondi
Julia is taking some needed time off. Enjoy this post from our archives.

I was born 2/15/64. Since 2007 I have lost nearly all my friends, some of my family, and the love of my life, all still alive. What happened? I’m not sure but I know I had Pluto square Venus. I was hoping things would pick up due to having some good planets being transited but nothing is happening. I have no job and I have no life. I don’t know what to do. The bad transit happened and affected me; why doesn’t the good one happen, too? Am I missing something? Hope you can help me. (SR)

Ouch, yes, you have had and still do have some quite difficult aspects which, certainly, could and have resulted in many losses leading to your currently painful reality. I don’t see the good aspects you referred to so it is not surprising that your situation has not turned around yet. It is not just that transiting Pluto squared your natal Venus, it is also that transiting Uranus conjoined your Venus and your natal Venus is quincunx your Uranus/Pluto conjunction. These current transits set off your difficult natal aspects to Venus making this time especially tough. Your natal Sun is conjunct Mars and Saturn squaring Neptune which is also difficult requiring you to confront any over idealization or unrealism you may have about life, yourself or others as you identify your true strengths.

First, I would suggest you look into the meaning of these natal aspects, since this is the time when the underlying issues, history, behavior patterns and energetic relationships between these planets (parts of yourself) are ripe for change and healing. A counselor who is also an astrologer would be ideal for this work. Secondly, you will have some good, helpful transits and progressions which can begin to improve your situation. In June, transiting Jupiter will conjunct your Ascendant, beginning a new 12 year cycle of opportunity, confidence and potential, including a possible relationship. Both your progressed Sun and your solar arc progressed Mars will conjunct your natal Jupiter, ruler of your 7th house of partners, in 2 to 3 years, likely leading to marriage by that time. If you focus on what you believe, the 9th house where your natal Mercury is being squared by transiting Saturn, I think you will find comfort, encouragement, greater awareness and hope in this spiritual pursuit.

During the next 3 months as your progressed Moon moves to conjunct your Lunar South Node in the 7th house, you can discover useful insights into your previous relationship patterns. This will help you attract different, stronger, more positive relationships in the future and enter them with a genuine personal strength and self assurance. Fortunately, your solar arc progressed Neptune has completed its recent square to your natal Venus and your progressed Mars will conjunct natal Venus in 1 to 2 years which also supports successes, happiness, caring relationships and some good fun.

Though major Pluto transits often leave us feeling at the bottom of our lives quite alone and without much hope, they are truly the moment when everything better becomes possible if we can find the faith, the wisdom and the patience to do our inner work and spiritual work which will open the doors to the new life that is already germinating. Don’t give up.

I just had my birthday (born 12/20/68) and I’m disheartened that a year has passed since I already realized I was sad, wanting to be a Mom and very single. I have explored various career paths and seem not to believe in myself enough to commit to my interests – and also feel my interests, especially creativity and art, don’t fit the mold of a marketable job. I believe everyone has gifts to share in this world but don’t seem to be able to really figure out a goal to pursue regarding mine. I feel I am at a crossroads, I started a part time job that interests me somewhat but it doesn’t pay that much and the hours are not guaranteed so I don’t know if I should continue. I’m unable to really move forward. I feel stuck. Loneliness/isolation is making it harder as along the way, in the town I moved to about 7 years ago, I stopped socializing with people who weren’t genuine friends…and others moved…or found partners and became distant. My town is smallish and the closest big city is a bit far to drive to all the time for a social life.

I resent that so many single friends I’ve known have stumbled upon their life partners/husbands without much effort. The men I meet and am attracted to are few and far between…and the last few, while expressing attraction to me, didn’t want to date me. The last one wasn’t romantically available. I just don’t know what to do. Am I in the right city? What career do I pick for fulfillment…and how do I find a partner? I feel alone and left out. I tried some counseling but it wasn’t effective and now I cannot afford it. I have had some financial help the last few months from family due to transitioning out of a job I hated but can’t continue. This help makes me feel less of an adult in their eyes. Is there any advice you can offer? My whole life I’ve felt a little different from others but now, it’s magnified. I need to cast a light on my future path so I can walk toward it. Many thanks for what you do. (SQ)

Witnessing your friends and others seeming to stumble into the life you deeply desire is naturally confusing and painful. It just doesn’t seem fair, as you say. “What about me?” However, each chart reflects a unique life and destiny with its own purpose, timing and gifts. In your case, the Moon rules your 7th house of partnership. Currently, transiting Pluto is conjunct your natal Moon, which is not just very difficult for attracting a healthy relationship but emotionally a time of feeling lost, stuck, alone, isolated, and bereft. Over the last few years transiting Pluto and Uranus have been setting off your natal Moon conjunct Mercury squaring Jupiter/Uranus, a disruptive time of change, confusion and being stuck when nothing seems to work.

Okay, that describes what you are experiencing. Now what? Transiting Saturn recently conjoined your Midheaven, which makes your current job more interesting despite its part time nature without guaranteed hours. I would suggest keeping it for now, seeing what you can learn, who you can meet and how you can use the time when you aren’t working to develop your own creative projects. With your Libra Midheaven, Venus – which is the planet of art and creativity – rules your career house. Trust that destiny. Yes, you can make a living in a creative field though the path will not be clearly laid out. You will need to trust your own natural and powerful vision, instincts, intuition and brilliance.

When you were born, the Sun, Mercury, and the Moon were conjunct your Ascendant, demonstrating your intelligence, insight, wisdom and good ideas that can interest and appeal to others. Transiting Pluto has recently conjoined your Ascendant, making this time one when you can and need to draw upon your own power. Yes, you are a bit different as all people are who were born with their natal Pluto in strong aspect to their Sun or Moon; you have a Sun/Pluto square. You will need to find the others who are also tuned to that Pluto channel, which is why you have moved away from friendships that were not genuine and why many men are intimidated by you. There are lots of other Pluto folks out there and you will meet them. I do think you will want to make another move when you find a place you want to move to and work or opportunity that is appealing. Your natal Mercury, which rules your 9th house of long distance travel, is recovering from its recent Uranus/Pluto conjunctions, suggesting that you are done with your current location yet where to move should and will arise naturally. Trust the life that is being born.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
