Ask the Oracle – June 12, 2014

By Julia Bondi

Julia is on vacation this week. We hope you enjoy this post from the archives.

At age 42, my life has not gone the way I planned. I was born May 16, 1970. I’m single, childless, and in poverty. Thoughts of suicide haunt me as I have trouble staying positive. My puppy is the only thing keeping me going. Since childhood I wanted to be an actress. In 1995 I graduated from college with a B.A. in Broadcast Communications to have something to fall back on. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a job that would lead to this. So, I continued trying to get into the entertainment world for 10 years and did substitute teaching to survive. I was diagnosed with a tumor on my appendix during this time and wondered if the uncertainty of acting caused it. In 2007, I decided to go back to school to earn my B.A in Education for job security. Unfortunately, the recession hit and 30,000 teachers were laid off. It has been 4 years and I’m still searching for a full-time position. These last few weeks I’ve come to the realization that I hate substitute teaching. It’s such a drain on me and I’m sorry I made this choice. I’m desperate to be happy and financially secure. I’d also like to be able to draw love into my life one day. Please help. (CG)

Your astrological chart in which the natal Moon is in Virgo conjunct both Pluto and Uranus describes a life that will certainly not turn out according to your plan though in time your life is meant to turn better than you could plan. All three of these planets are in your 6th house of work confirming the changes, disappointments, and losses you have experienced in your work history. In addition to this natal conjunction the last 4-5 years has seen transiting Pluto followed by transiting Uranus aspecting all four angles in your chart upsetting all your plans and expectations in every arena of your life.

As a Taurus born with your Sun in the 2nd house of values, income and financial security you do desire and need a steady income which offers stability. About the time you were graduating with your M.A. in education the economy was collapsing and transiting Pluto was conjunct your career angle which is a very difficult time to begin or build a new career as you found. Though you are a creative person your chart does not show a destiny as an actress, however, your first degree in Broadcast Communications is much closer to your natural skills. First, it is helpful to know that your 6th house Moon in Virgo is an indicator of your competence, skills, capacity for hard work and desire to be excellent at your job. Pluto’s conjunction intensifies that desire and need but also describes a life in which you must find work that is both deeply meaningful for you and serves a larger purpose. Despite the many disappointments you have suffered in your work life your capacity to find a job that can become important, satisfying and a true source of pride is the real meaning of these positions.

Transiting Saturn spent much of the last decade in your 6th house of work during which it conjuncted your Virgo planets which is a very difficult period of struggle, both practically and emotionally. It is no wonder you feel dark after this period. Life is about to change in the coming year as transiting Uranus, the planet of reinventing everything, conjuncts your Ascendant beginning a radically new period in your life. Your mission is stay present (puppies are grounding, comforting and a joy), be willing and ready to try seemingly unusual or even seemingly impossible directions or approaches based on your intuition. This will be the moment when the blog/creative idea you develop for fun and send to an organization just because you want to can become a ticket through the door. Uranus will reach your Ascendant in May of 2013 where its miracles will become possible into 2014. Since you were born with Uranus conjunct your Moon and Descendant opposing your Ascendant, you are sensitive to this potential for rapid, unexpected change which will be a breath of fresh air.

I agree that teaching is not your path though I am sure you are very competent. Your five planets in earth signs confirm you have innate business skills which can support your future success while your four planets in air signs confirm your intelligence and communication/ideas ability. This time is a critical one for you as transiting Saturn moves to oppose your natal Saturn; it is time to reinvent your career. Remember that your 1st house Saturn indicates a later success in life which is right where you are in your life in 2013. Children were unlikely in your life due to your Moon aspects but love is very likely in the next year or two as transiting Jupiter conjuncts your natal Venus, ruler of your 7th house of partners, and your progressed Venus completes its square to Saturn which has been lonely. I would suggest that you look into the fact that your chart does not contain any planets in fire signs and only one planet in a water sign; an imbalance you can focus on improving through developing your intuitive sense and seeking positive people to support a faith in what is possible for you.

My life is being totally turned upside-down. After moving to Oregon from Seattle a year ago with my partner, I began a non-traditional herb school program and loved it. I am hoping it leads to a new career in my life, possibly working with elders and hospice or palliative care. And, after a few months of looking, I finally found a job I was well suited for (that would support me while I continued schooling) and things seemed to settle down. We bought a house that is wonderful but does need a fair amount of work. A few weeks ago, my Mom discovered she has terminal cancer. I feel called to be as much support as I can be during these next months. To that end, I left my job and am planning on spending a lot of time there (she lives about 4 hours away) and having a foot in both places. My family is not easy to be around with many problems/addictions (hoarding, alcoholism, obesity) and I’m concerned about self-care and being overwhelmed by the many needs of family members. Also, I need to be able to support myself in a way that is not tied to a location. I am considering looking for some house of pet-sitting jobs or computer work. This is hard on my partner as this leaves him with many home projects to do by on his own as well as the loss of my income. I know I am doing the right thing by helping my family (and I would love to know what the karma is there?) but is there support for me as well? And, will my partner and I survive my being gone for many months? My birthday is October 23, 1958 while my partner was born March 9, 1949. Thank you. (RB)

The recent changes in your life, your move, your education preparing for a new career, buying a house and settling into a good life with your partner have been a wise, responsible, conscious response to transiting Saturn’s conjunction to your Ascendant over the last year. These choices were the ones you could plan while transiting Neptune’s square to your natal Mars and opposition to your natal Pluto you could not plan. Your mother is described by your Pisces Moon which is ruled by Neptune while your natal Neptune is ruled by Pluto bringing your relationship with your mother into this unfolding transit in 2012. There are other indicators of your mother’s illness and approaching passing with your natal Mars in the 8th house of death squaring Pluto which is the natural ruler of the 8th house. Saturn rules your 4th house of family describing both your feeling of responsibility in this critical time and the difficult family you were born to.

Looking at your Sun conjunct Neptune, Moon square Saturn and Mars square Pluto it is clear that you would not have had an easy family, in fact, a family with many problems and dysfunctions. Still, you are the person with Chiron in your 4th house that can be a healing presence for your family. And, between your Pisces Moon and Sun conjunct Neptune you do have a spiritual/karmic contract with your family. I agree that you must return home to your partner regularly both for him and for you, to nurture each other and your relationship. Also, your Neptunian nature is so sensitive that you will want to carefully balance your life in both locations with work, family care and time for yourself or you will become much too depleted. You will need to provide your own self care and spiritual comfort. The same qualities that could overwhelm you if you are not careful are the same gifts and sensitivities that will make you an ideal healer in your new career path.

While you will need to tend your partnership, you and he are very close with your Moons trine each other, your Pisces Moon conjunct his Sun, Venus, and Mars in Pisces and many other caring connections between your charts. You can trust this relationship to weather this period of separation. Interestingly, this time of your mother’s illness and passing will be an extraordinary though challenging learning journey for you to complete your contract with your mother, come to a much deeper understanding of your family and will prepare you for your coming work. In approximately four years both your progressed Mercury and Mars will move to direct motion signally a successful, meaningful and pleasurable life ahead of you.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
