Ask the Oracle – March 8, 2012

By Julia Bondi

: I love your Q&A column. I have a query. I thought I would just retire after being laid off from my job in July 2010. I hike, do photography, some art, tai chi and qigong (I’m a certified tai chi instructor but not teaching now). I tried to start a healing arts practice doing energy healing and spiritual advising but it did not take off at all. I worked in social services as a therapist and a manager my whole career life. Even though friends and family urged me to share my spiritual gifts, at this point I’ve got a WHO CARES attitude. I was feeling just “too old” to start another career. NOW, I really want to be fully engaged in SOMETHING but I do not know what that is. And, I keep having that WHO CARES attitude. Where is my passion? What’s in store for me in the third act of my life? I’m single, divorced for 10 years. My daughters are into their own lives. My grandsons are adults. I moved to Portland to be near my daughters after living in Seattle for 32 years leaving my good friends back there. I’ve been in Portland for 18 months. I’m thinking; NOW WHAT? I was born July 23rd, 1947, a Leo with a Libra Moon, Libra Ascendant and Leo in the 10th house. Thank you for any insight you can give a healthy, happy, spiritual woman at age 64 who doesn’t know what’s next or where to find IT. And, money is an issue. I am collecting unemployment for a couple more months, have social security and no other retirement. I need income. Thank you.

KK

Congratulations on being a healthy, happy, spiritual woman at age 64. That alone is a worthy accomplishment. I can see why you moved to Portland to be near your daughters which you chose to do as your progressed Moon moved into your 4th house of family 18 months ago. Venus in Cancer rules your chart making the closeness of family very important to you and the timing of this move a commitment to establishing your third act near your family. Certainly as your Sun progressed into Libra in the 12th house, it was time to retire, make a significant change, take some risks and develop your inner, spiritual self more fully than you could when you had a full time job. As a Leo Sun with both Saturn and Pluto in Leo in the 10th house, you do have passion and a third act ahead of you. A natal Saturn in the 10th house does indicate your third act after age 59 is when you will achieve your greatest success and fulfillment in the world. However, you do not have any planets in earth in your chart which is usually a signal that establishing a career or business on your own is not ideal for you. You will be much more successful working with others in a group setting where your Leo passion and Libra rising (along with both Moon and Neptune in Libra) social ability will thrive. The Moon at 15 degrees of Libra in the 12th house rules your 10th house of career. Transiting Saturn just completed a conjunction to your Moon last fall, your solar arc progressed Pluto is just coming into a conjunction to your Moon and your secondary progressed Moon has recently completed an opposition to your natal Saturn/Pluto in your career house. Whew, no wonder you haven’t been able to find work nor have you really wanted to. A Leo Sun, Libra rising and your chart ruler, Venus, conjunct your Midheaven along with Mercury clearly validates your artistic and teaching abilities. Your Moon/Neptune conjunction in the 12th house along with Venus, Mercury and Uranus in the 9th house support your tai chi and qigong interest, training and excellence. By September transiting Jupiter will be opposing your 2nd house ruler describing your increased income and work that will be able to supplement your social security as it leads to more opportunities in the future. You may find a position in mid April when transiting Jupiter opposing your natal Jupiter due to Jupiter’s ruler ship of your 6th house of work. I do think you are finished with social work, however, I don’t think you are yet ready for your future work which is why you feel WHO CARES. I would advise you to look for a job working at a holistic health clinic, wellness practice or with a holistic doctor or therapist which would provide income, contacts and a time to continue your own development which is in process with your progressed Venus now conjunct your natal Neptune as transiting Pluto squares that conjunction and transiting Uranus opposes it. You are gestating your new career, life and joy. In a year or so when Neptune and Pluto have moved on, transiting Jupiter reaches your Midheaven and Saturn solar arcs across your natal Moon; you will be right where you are meant to be. And, it will be a great joy.

I just found this site and love it. I cannot seem to get my head around Astrology enough to read my reports or read into my future with any clarity. Everything has to be evaluated in relation to other things and it’s just too confusing. I am hoping you can help. My life has undergone an epic transformation the last two years. The last year has been distinctly difficult, painful and transformative.  I’m now standing on the edge of the future with a great deal more wholeness than before with far more options open to me. See, I married for the wrong reasons and have been miserable trying to make it work. I spent the last year owning my personal worth and working diligently on making me better. After 13 years together with 2 great kids in the mix, I’ve been actively trying to save my marriage but it isn’t possible and I’ve accepted the loss. He and I are still good friends who can make a different version of family for them together. This choice changes lots of things though. I need to work more and wonder if getting an employment position is better than operating my own consulting business as I do now. What will become of love in my future and can my ex and I truly love each other through the undoing of us. I just want to grab the reins and take the lead in my life again. But, I’m frozen. I feel paralyzed. Desperate to know the worst is over, giddy with curiosity about the future and filled to the top of my soul with the wishes/dreams/hopes for a favorable future. Yet paralyzed. I just feel stuck. Overwhelmed by trepidation and maybe if I knew what was coming, I could brace myself while I keep moving forward, or at least not fear the worst may be just around the corner. On a whim and focused on the beauty of timing and divine intervention, I’m asking you what the next year has in store for me, my kids, my husband, my career and my home. Thanks for the consideration. My birthday is March 19, 1976 and my husband’s is December 29, 1967.

HW

It is 2012 and the time for epic transformation. You are right on schedule with transiting Saturn squaring your natal Saturn which is the time to review all the decisions you made 7 and 14 years ago about the direction and structure of your life, particularly in relation to your marriage (Saturn co-ruling your 7th house of marriage) and your role as a wife/mother (natal Saturn in Cancer). Saturn reviews are never easy; they are serious, hard and have consequences but they are necessary. Your marriage has lasted 13 years bringing it close to that 14 year Saturn opposition cycle. If you believe in past lives/karma, I think your marriage is meant to be complete now as you both take responsibility for your children’s welfare and rebuild your own individual lives. Last year at your 12 year Jupiter return you were ready to choose your own growth and future first, to be the best you possible which is perfect for a Jupiter return in Aries in the 10th house of career. In addition to the Jupiter return, last year transiting Uranus began opposing your natal Mars activating your desire to follow your own path, to be your own woman, to follow your own dreams. Again, a perfect response to your natal Mars in the 11th house of your future. This year and next year transiting Neptune will be trining your natal Mars supporting your ability to follow those hopes and dreams your soul is guiding you to fulfill. Between now and October as Saturn opposes your Jupiter and squares your Saturn, you will still feel the enormity of what you are doing, be figuring out how to do it all, and putting a plan in place for your own work/future. There will be some emotional ups and downs but it will all feel more steady and easier by fall though still demanding. You did not provide a time for your husband’s birth which doesn’t allow me to look at the houses in his chart but I can tell you this change does show up in his chart as transiting Pluto conjuncts his natal Sun/Mercury. It is time for both of you to go on. Your Capricorn husband is a responsible man who will live up to his commitments and want the best for your children. I see real love between the two of you in mutual Venus aspects but there are many very tough connections between your two charts making a marriage quite challenging as it has been. Each of you has nodal connections that do indicate how much you have benefited from the marriage over the long run, despite its incompatibility. Trust that it is OK and right to move forward individually now. You were born with Jupiter in the 10th house of career where it is currently transiting which is an ideal time to expand your current business since your natal Mars, ruler of your 10th,  squares your Pluto clearly showing that you won’t like working for others as much as you enjoy your own consulting business. With 7 natal planets in water, including your blessed Pisces Sun and fortunate Jupiter in your 10th house, you will be very happy with your future if you trust yourself and your own intuition/guidance. Good luck!

Astrologers use a variety of house systems, or methods of dividing up the sky into twelve sections. I use the Porphyry house system; another popular house system is Placidus (this is the default on https://astro.com). If the chart I send you looks different from what you are used to seeing, then likely a system other than Porphyry was used. Whole signs, Equal House, Regiomantus, and Campanus are examples of other systems. If you find all of this confusing, do not worry. It is likely not critical to your report.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
