Ask the Oracle – September 29, 2012

By Julia Bondi

I am a 57 year old woman whose birthday is June 14, 1955. At this time I have to make a decision about surgery for an aneurysm. The doctor has said this operation on the main artery in my head is necessary. On December 2, 2011 I was a passenger on a bus when there was an accident. I am still not healed from this accident and am concerned about having this operation. I think I am near my second Saturn return. I have a great deal of fear; am worrying a lot. My natal Saturn is in the 4th house in Scorpio. Now that Saturn will move into Scorpio in October I am more concerned. Is it true that Saturn rules the arteries? This planet is now at the IC in my chart. Should I choose the operation this year or is it too dangerous for me? I have financial, family and partnership problems, too. My marriage of 30 years is ending. (AS)

Second Saturn returns are a time of change, challenge, and serious choices. While your Saturn return is still a year in the future, it is common for the challenges of this transition to be apparent at least a year prior to the actual return. The complete Saturn cycle is 29 ½ years, thus, the coming end of your 30 marriage is not surprising though it is quite a significant change in your life. Often at this 30 year marker a marriage is stale and has become more of a habit than a romance ready to reawakened or released. You did not mention how you feel about your marriage ending but know that this is a time for you to reset your own life and create a more satisfying future for yourself. Since your natal Saturn is in your 4th house of home and family, it makes sense that you would be facing family problems at this Saturn return along with the Scorpio ending of your marriage and, perhaps, the sale of your family home. As Saturn co-rules your 8th house of joint finance, debt, assets, and divorce settlements it is reasonable to expect changes and difficulties in this area of your life as your marriage comes to its conclusion.

Physical illness, whether chronic conditions requiring treatment or acute medical problems arising, are also common at the 2nd Saturn return as we face the reality that we will soon be 60 years old entering the stage of becoming elderly. How healthy we can be in later life does depend on our genetics but equally on how we have or have not taken care of ourselves for this 1st 58 years of life and what we do now to become as healthy as we can be. Of course, your accident was not a result of your health or life decisions, but the aneurysm likely is a hereditary health weakness. Whether to have and when to schedule surgery is a question in which your chart can guide you as you make this critical decision.

First, your 6th house of health is ruled by Capricorn which suggests that you can benefit from and will choose to have surgery, to use traditional medical treatment. Now the question is when to have the surgery. In 2013, transiting Uranus will be squaring your natal Mars, the ruler of surgery, and in 2014, transiting Pluto will be opposing your Mars indicating that you will surely have and do need this surgery in the next 2 years. I would advise having the surgery before transiting Pluto in 2014 leads to the surgery becoming a response to an emergency.

Now, let’s look at this fall versus 2013 to determine the best time for your surgery. I would look at early December of 2012, early February of 2013 or the late summer/early to mid fall of 2013 depending on your general health becoming strong enough for the surgery and a break in the inevitable challenges of this 2nd Saturn return period in your life. This is not the format for a detailed analysis of precise surgery dates; plus, you will want to make this decision with your doctor. Arteries in general are ruled by Jupiter, veins in general by Venus though each specific artery or vein has an individual ruler making generalization for the whole circulatory system inaccurate. Take your time and make the decision that allows you to take care of yourself at this time for knowing what is best for you and your future life to thrive.

I am hoping you can advise me on the best way to consciously co-parent my lovely grandson so he can become the wonderful, magnificent being he truly is. His birthday is October 2, 2011. (AA)

I am delighted to respond to your caring, conscious question about your young grandson. Parents and grandparents have the best opportunity to impact and support young lives if we are aware that children enter the world as the awake, aware, conscious beings they already are, completely receptive to the environment they enter at birth. When looking at an infant’s well-being, naturally, the most important chart to study is the baby’s chart. In addition to his chart, it would be helpful to study your 9th house which is the arena of grandchildren in your own chart. This relationship is based both on the child’s nature and needs and your approach to and expectations for your grandchildren.

Let’s begin with the baby’s chart. He is a Libra Sun with Mercury, Venus and Saturn also in the sign of Libra. These Libra planets are all in the 8th house. His Moon is in Sagittarius in the 10th house, his Mars in Leo in the 6th house while he has Aquarius rising with both Neptune and Chiron conjunct his Ascendant. Jupiter is in Taurus in the 3rd house, with Uranus in Aries in the 2nd house and Pluto in Capricorn in the 11th rounding out the planetary picture for your grandson. While Libra’s are intelligent, verbal, kind, attractive, loving and responsive to the others in their world, Uranus (the archetype of individuality and independence) is opposite his Sun/Mercury suggesting that he will be more able to maintain his own sense of who he is and what he wants than many Libra’s who find it difficult to separate who they are and who their parents want them to be. Libra as an air sign is bright and pleasant but can be a bit cool yet the Moon in Sagittarius is an emotionally warm, passionate, active, generous nature and Neptune rising is an exquisitely sensitive, imaginative, and spiritually aware individual. Mars in Leo is also a fire sign adding more fire, energy, drama, flair and creative excitement and confidence to your grandson’s personality along with Pluto squaring his 8th house Sun/Mercury intensifying his energy, personality, intentions and capabilities. Wow, this is a complex Libra sweetheart.

Unfortunately, you did not provide your own birth data which does not allow me to look at your chart in relation to your grandson’s chart. Libra’s are hypersensitive to stress and tension between their parents and loved ones since they thrive in a harmonious environment with loving, respectful relationships but they do need to learn that healthy people and relationships include good times and difficult ones. If their family is mostly caring with the ability to discuss and even disagree or argue fairly arriving at a resolution to disagreements that not only does not harm the relationships but produces growth and greater understanding, Libra’s are then free to be their caring selves without becoming relationship mediators sublimating their needs to their families. Support your grandson’s feisty, independent and soulful personality as well as his need for love and approval which will be the perfect gift to his destiny.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
