I was listening to a talk by evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest recently, when he said something that made me sit up and take notice. He was discussing his natal North Node in Taurus in the sixth house. Despite being in his early 70s, the world-renowned author admitted that until recently, he hadn’t had a medical checkup in 14 years. He prefers to spend time, he said, in his twelfth house Scorpio South Node – investigating deep mysteries – rather than tending to his sixth house Taurus physical needs.
Forrest, who was being interviewed by Suzanne Gerber on her recent astrology summit, said he believes it’s the same for all of us. “At your North Node, you’re dumb as dirt,” he asserted. “You don’t know how to do it.” The remedy, he added, is to get past old South Node habits that have become ingrained over lifetimes. And that requires relentless effort. “It took you a thousand years to dig this hole for yourself,” he said, assuring listeners that with a playful, forgiving attitude we can begin to dig ourselves out.
That sounds like a task tailor made for an earth sign. And soon we’ll have a Capricorn Full Moon (July 13, 11:37 a.m. PDT) to help us get the process started. Not only is the Moon in pragmatic, earthy Capricorn, but it’s six degrees away from relentless, do-or-die Pluto and closely trine the North Node of destiny and liberating Uranus in Taurus. If we work with this lunation consciously, we can jumpstart the process of loosening the bonds of South Node habits that have plagued us for lifetimes. And this, in turn, will influence the zeitgeist in the direction of greater consciousness and well-being.
Of course, there’s bound to be plenty of unconscious acting-out at this Full Moon as well. Capricorn-Cancer is a cardinal power axis, which often pits authority figures (Capricorn) against those who need protection (Cancer), most notably women and children – a process that’s unfortunately already playing out around the world. This lunation can also bring things to a head with family dynamics and career-related issues.
What this Full Moon triggers for each of us will relate to the houses (and any planets) that the Sun at 21 Cancer and Moon at 21 Capricorn are lighting up. And, it would be smart to factor in the house (and any planets) that 18-20 degrees Taurus (Uranus and the North Node) are electrifying. For example, 18-20 Taurus falls in my twelfth house, so my subconscious mind is being stirred up. This could mean a startling dream or realization that shakes me awake. And since the Full Moon lights up my third and ninth houses, it could involve news or developments in the neighborhood (third house) or from afar (ninth house). My disruptive next-door neighbors have unexpectedly moved out and taken their souped-up Maserati with them – and a new family is set to move in soon. I’m praying they’ll be more neighborly. And, on the ninth house end of things, a dear old friend will soon be coming to visit from Hawaii.
If, like Steven Forrest, you have your natal North Node in Taurus, this Full Moon could prove especially karmic. Taurus can be a stick-in-the-mud, but with Uranus traversing that sign from May 2018 to June 2025, those with Taurus placements are being awakened to the need for change. Mars joins Uranus near the North Node on August 1, facilitating that process (more on this in my next blog).
In the meantime, we can all get our feet on the ground and our hands in the earth at the upcoming Full Moon. Dig up something in your garden that’s overgrown or dead. Or, release old, stuck feelings to Mama Earth for recycling into a hole you have dug.
Here are a few other ideas for working with a Capricorn Full Moon, excerpted from my book Moon Rituals: Easy Tips for Working with Each Astrological Sign to Develop Your True, Lunar Nature.
- Reorganize your closet or garage. Tackle tasks like clearing clutter or sweeping up dust and dirt.
- Make plans to visit an older friend or relative. Capricorn likes us to honor age and wisdom.
- Be humble. Lay your ego aside, get down on your knees to pray or submit to a higher power.
- Trade massages with a friend. We tend to feel a little creaky when the Moon is in Saturn’s sign.
- Brainstorm ideas for a business or home-related project. Capricorn gives focus and willpower.
Many Full Moon blessings to you!
