Born with a cleft lip and eyes of two different colors, seven-year-old Madden Humphreys often came home in tears after bullies at his school called him “ugly” and even worse names.
“It broke my heart,” his mother, Christina Humphreys of Tulsa, Oklahoma, told People Magazine. “He had no friends and had to play by himself. It was gut-wrenching.” Last March, though, all of that changed when Madden met Moon, a rescue cat that also has one brown eye, one blue eye and a cleft lip.
“What are the odds of finding a cat like this one? It was really meant to be,” said Christina. She had been looking through a private site for moms of children with cleft palates when she saw a photo of Moon, who was up for adoption in Minnesota – an eleven hour drive away. “I thought immediately that this cat would be great for Madden — that he’d be able to relate to him,” she said. So she packed her entire family in the car and off they went.
Madden and Moon instantly bonded. And Christina says she’s noticed many positive changes in her son since they brought the kitty home. “I honestly think that Moon has helped Madden realize that being born unique is an incredible thing,” she says.
The Libra Full Moon (Wednesday, March 20, 6:43 p.m. PDT) is a great time to celebrate our uniqueness – and see that mirrored in others. Bonding in the broken places can happen now, as the Full Moon occurs just after the Sun shifts into Aries at the Vernal Equinox. And this heroic Sun, which rings in the astrological New Year, closely conjuncts Wounded Healer Chiron, newly in Aries. Courage is available on personal and collective levels, as well as in relationships. Balancing your personal needs with those of others is the theme of Aries-Libra. And you can do this by honoring whatever may be broken in yourself, and reaching out to others who have similar wounds.
Another in a series of Super Moons, this lunation features an auspicious trine between power-brokers Mars and Pluto in grounded earth signs, and a helpful sextile from intuitive Mercury in Pisces to wise Saturn in Capricorn. Mercury is still retrograde (through March 28), but he’s functioning fairly well at this Full Moon. Decisions can be made, wisdom can be received, and practical steps can be taken. The Full Moon also features a tight square from Venus in Aquarius to Mars in Taurus, which can signify tension in relationships. So if there’s a blow-out or misunderstanding, take it in stride. It’s undoubtedly revealing a wound that needs understanding and healing.
Be sure to call down the Moon magic on Wednesday night. At each Equinox and Solstice, the energy shifts and it’s easier to release the past and move onward. Plus, there’s a healing gift available to you at each seasonal change. Tune in and ask what it is. The answer may come as an image, a feeling or a word. Write it down, speak it aloud, draw a picture or purchase something to remind you of this gift. Then go out and share it with others!

What a sweet story! So glad that Madden’s mom found Moon! They look so happy together!
This Libra Full Moon will be in my 11th house. One of my best friends at work is leaving and it will be a sad day. Of course we will still keep in touch but we were like sisters and hung out to meditate, warmth lunch and take walks everyday. It will leave a big hole.
Simone says
Ah, so it will be a bittersweet moon for you indeed, Michele! Blessings on this transition, and here’s hoping that Spirit will help you fill that hole eventually in some amazing way. Glad you enjoyed the story of Madden and Moon. Many blessings…
