Visible during the first half of the night, this Moon rises in the east at noon and sets in the west at midnight. At sunset, you’ll find the Moon poised above the southern horizon, half light, half dark.

From Dana Gerhardt’s Moon Workshop
A turning point… will you go forward with new action? Or hang back in familiar patterns? This is the action phase. That means tension can be a good thing. Where would heroes be if there weren’t villains to draw them out? Your plot has already begun. You’re the protagonist; your antagonist has appeared. Of course, you’re taken by surprise. That’s how it is at the First Quarter Moon. Someone shows up too soon, says an unkind word, or worse, attacks. You’re not sure you’re ready to take them on. Your test is to discern: is your enemy just a windmill, or a gift from the great plot maker, sent to develop you beyond the limits you thought you had. If someone or something draws you out of your safety zone, bless this moment, and step forward. But if you’re just tense, realize that’s because this phase wants action. Move. Make a commitment by doing. Whether it’s your action or inaction, you now lay the foundation for your Full Moon realization. To expand your heroic limits, do something your parents never thought you could do.
This Moon’s gift is Action.
Nothing happens until you start moving. Whether your steps are self-directed, or provoked by an unexpected challenge, this is the phase you must get into action. You may not understand the implications of your actions until later—for now, just go forward and do the thing that scares you!
Its foundation element is Water.
You may find that your emotions are especially motivating this Moon phase. The water element connects you with the flow of your feelings. Drink lots of water, listen to water sounds, swim, enjoy a sacred bath.
What do you most need to learn this phase?
You’re learning to honor your feelings. Most people stay in painful situations too long—because they’ve learned to dishonor their feelings. To keep a keen connection to your emotional nature this phase, be sure to create sacred space. Give yourself energetic boundaries that safely allow you to tune into your needs, without interference from others’ expectations or desires.
Are you touching the Moon? It’s one thing to read about the Moon, but another to tune into her with energetic sensitivity. The first method is mental; the second is sensuous and intuitive (which is of course the preferred way to grasp the Moon). Dana’s Moon Workshop can support you in developing an exciting, organic relationship with the Moon.
