Rioting in the streets. Cop cars torched. Protests in at least 140 cities. After the horrifying May 25 killing of George Floyd by police, frustrations already stretched to the breaking point during Covid-19 lock-downs could no longer be contained. And around the world, people are standing in solidarity with those who have been oppressed for far too long.
Welcome to the summer eclipses. An explosive Sagittarius Full Moon eclipse (June 5 at 12:12 p.m. PDT) launches the brigade, charging the atmosphere with heightened emotions (which we’re already feeling). This eclipse will be followed by an even more powerful total solar eclipse on June 21 at the Solstice point in Cancer, and a Capricorn lunar eclipse on July 4. The latter two eclipses pertain to issues of home, family, tribalism and government. So the June 5 lunar eclipse is only a warm-up for what is to come.
In the U.S., our collective shadow is being exposed (yet again) as the racism that this country was built upon comes under scrutiny. At an eclipse in fiery Sagittarius, we can expect attempts to shut down those who are trying to be heard, and to restrict movement. Yet the higher purpose of a fire sign eclipse is to expose and incinerate outmoded beliefs and limited ways of perceiving reality. Unexamined prejudices and unworkable conditions are leaping painfully into the spotlight so we can identify and change them within ourselves, as well as through demanding systemic reforms.
The Sun is near retrograde Venus in Gemini at this eclipse, urging us to pay attention to details and things that have been left undone, especially with our values and relationships, before charging blindly into new territory. The retrograde of Venus through June 25 signals that whatever we’re dealing with now, whether personal or collective, has its roots in the past. The eclipsed Moon, Sun and Venus are all in a tense T-square to Mars in Pisces, ramping up emotions and impulsiveness. It’s crucial now to be sensitive to others’ values and needs, and to properly show support.
Gemini rules free speech, the press, technology and rhetoric. Issues related to voter suppression and disinformation of various kinds will continue to be rampant as election season approaches, with things changing rapidly in typical Gemini fashion. Eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius will happen again at the end of this year, and continue through the end of 2021. So we’ll have plenty of time to explore how our ways of thinking and speaking may blind us to the needs and realities of other people – and to be receptive to the gradual awakening of the higher mind that Sagittarius promises.
It feels as if we’re reaching a tipping point, and not just here in the U.S. Emotional and financial instability are happening world-wide, opening the door for needed change. Undoubtedly you’re experiencing this unrest in some area of your life. Has a key relationship reached the point of no return? Are you facing old traumas or limited ways of thinking that have been holding you back? Or, perhaps you feel called to jettison your old career and go after a dream. This summer’s eclipses will bring unanticipated twists and turns, so stay as grounded as possible. Get connected to your inner guidance system. Keep an open mind, and widen your perspective. There will be many ways to learn and expand as old systems crumble to make way for the new. Reach out to those who need your support, and seek out whatever emotional support you might need.

My sun 5, mercury12, and midheaven 14 are all in Sag in my 10th house. Venus is remaking my 4th and my asc at 5 Pisces is feeling stretched thin.
