Virgo Full Moon: Answers From Within

By Jessica Shepherd

Problems. I don’t know a person who doesn’t have them. In astrology, problem-solving is associated with the sign of Virgo, and some problems are simpler to tackle than others. For instance, when I tell my friend, Marian, who has Venus in Virgo in her First House, that our new King sized bed is like trying to fit a King mackerel in a sardine box, in seconds she’s strategised a new floor plan. Then there are problems that resemble an unsolvable Rubik’s cube — where that same walk we take down Logic Lane takes a turn for the worse at the bend of Spiritual Impasse, to arrive at the Point Of No Return.  We can’t find a solution. We ask why and move ten steps back. We’ve stumbled upon the Virgo Zen koan of problem solving: Asking why something is happening, or constantly looking for answers, only keeps us in our mind.

It’s the shadow of Virgo: analyzing, fretting, nit-picking an issue till we’re in knots but the opposite sign, Pisces, calls for surrender, imagination, acceptance. In the book Sacred Contracts Carolyn Myss says that when Thomas Edison needed to solve a problem with one of his inventions he would sit in a rocking chair with a question in mind holding a ball in each hand. Rocking in his chair, when a ball would hit the floor signalling he had started to doze off, it would awaken him. At that moment, he would remember what he had been visualizing or dreaming and often it held a clue to what he was working on. Thomas Edison somehow knew solutions for certain types of problems won’t necessarily arrive in a linear way.

The Sun will soon move into Aries at Spring Equinox on March 21, triggering the difficult Uranus-Pluto square and cardinal cross that is exact from mid to end of April. In astrological shorthand, many are experiencing an impasse and a call to action to tackle the kind of problems that are toughest to crack. This Virgo Full Moon is a preparatory pause button in our consciousness, a time to seek integrative solutions in a non-linear way, to allow the chaos of our lives to open us up and guide us to new self-awareness. For those who ask, What do I need to work on in myself? What will help my life, work, relationships run better, more efficient, smoothly? Virgo Full Moon will probably present a few practical solutions in real world ways.  But for other life issues, Rubik’s cube level ones –stubborn, unyielding Uranus-Pluto type problems that we’ve gone over a hundred times in our head, problems that we’ve relentlessly worked to improve, and exhausted our resources to solve — those require a stronger and yet gentler approach: an innovative shift in consciousness, a turning of the perceptual prism in a new and slightly more imaginative, surrendered way.

My Rubik’s cube is insomnia. Virgo and Pisces fall in my Sixth and Twelfth Houses, respectively. Sleep routines, stress reduction techniques, herbs, vitamins and essential oils, you name it, I’ve tried it. We try and control so much of the world through the Ego Mind, but health difficulties are a real lesson in learning to look at your self in a holistic way. Yet my mind scavenges for answers, always like searching for a needle in a haystack, and I often reach the end of my rope. This happened last night when still awake at 4 AM, talking to my husband on the phone several time zones away, he suggested I do the one thing I hadn’t yet fully embraced: accomplish what I need to do during the day, at night. Maybe, he sagely suggested, the body-mind already knows what it needs to do to reconnect, you just need to allow it to happen.

Right now, while the Sun is still in imaginative Pisces, and Mercury soon follows, we have a window for glimpsing new perceptions, startling new ways of seeing. Where does this Full Moon fall in your chart? The buzz of the problem-solving Virgo Moon can help you to identify sources of uneasy dissatisfaction in these areas so you can make improvements in your health, work-life, routines and daily habits.  But for the problems that require a more creative approach, take a clue from Edison. Don’t overthink it. Go easy. Let it percolate on the back burner while you’re sleeping, bathing, relaxing. In moments of calculated inattention, let the answers find you.

I love your articles! Thank you again for this one.

It’s been a gloomy Virgo Full Moon time for me since I’ve only just realized how my Virgo Pluto 9th-Aries Venus 3rd quincunx has been playing out in my relationships. A huge wakeup call and identity crises. It feels like I’ve looked in the mirror and been horrified by what I’ve seen.

I really hope to get answers within during this Full Moon and see how I can find my way to healing…

Kira, I’m curious if you could shar any insights about your 9th-3rd quincunx has been playing out in relationships. My Virgo-Aries is flipped, but I’ve also had some realizations over the last few days about how I’ve lost (through long roads of resentment, then consequential neglect) connections to friends and community, and how my family’s life–and my child’s sense of security–is being impacted as a result. I’m trying to understand what an acceptable path for me would have been, or if I did anything to cause the sources of my resentment, etc.

Hi Ann, this seems to be the time for deep realizations for sure! My Virgo-Aries axis is all about boundaries which has been a troubled area for me since growing up in a narcissistic family. Only recently I’ve tried to bring my ‘old tricks’ into a new relationship only to find out that these are very disrespecting ways to dominate the other. Since realizing that I’ve had to step back, leave the other wondering, and do inner work with myself to find out how to change my ill behavior patterns for good. I hope this is of help in figuring out your Virgo-Aries, Ann. Good luck!

Hi Kira, Thank you for reading! When I’m in a full moon moment of painful self-realization and recrimination it’s often hard for me to acknowledge that simply processing the awareness and emotions surrounding is healing and releasing. Virgo can bring out the inner Critic, so go gentle on your self.
p.s. – If you haven’t seen it yet, Ann, another Mooncircles reader, has a question for you.

Hi Jessica, and thanks for replying. I’ve never had such a clear moment during Full Moon before. Maybe critical Virgo energy is needed since my unhealthy boundary patterns stem from being raised by two Virgos(!) Thank you also for encouragement. You are so right about the gift of awareness. That is a where the healing begins…

ooh i’ve got the same thing – virgo-pisces-6-12 – have come to the conclusion after many decades of this waking up about 3-4 that this is the quiet time when every one is asleep and me and my mind can “chat” – i journal everything, writing it all down – as if to say, see i wrote it down i am listening, you don’t have to repeat it all fifty times. From this come to do lists, new ideas, aha’s etc etc… Now, if i could only get my living room rearranged!!! this one has been percolating for quite awhile now…. thanks i will try the Edison napping trick…

Hi Helen, Ah, your words inspire hope that eventually we do figure out how to give the body-mind what it needs. Best of luck on the living room 🙂

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
