In a fascinating twist of fate, a group of former Tesla employees in the UK has turned a devastating loss into an exciting new venture. After Elon Musk fired an entire team of Tesla engineers last year, the ex-employees banded together, quickly secured an impressive $80 million in funding, and launched their own electric vehicle charging company.
Hubber, created by Harry Fox, Connor Selwood and Hugh Leckie, focuses on providing fast, reliable EV charging in major cities (which is currently lacking). The team’s timely move was inspired by frustration and necessity, but it was an idea whose time has come. Musk’s erratic decision to fire them, rather than being a setback, became the fuel for a new enterprise that could even end up eclipsing Tesla.
The new company plans to acquire and develop prime urban sites, turning them into large-scale charging hubs. They are looking at locations that other developers might pass over – like old warehouses or gas stations – to transform them into sites featuring charging hubs with amenities like restrooms and vending machines. But most of all, their focus will be on getting people in and out quickly and efficiently.
Hubber’s first facility, which features 12 EV charging bays, opened on August 20th in South London. This was just before the Aug. 22 New Moon in efficient Virgo, which was square electrical Uranus. Now we’re about to have another Virgo New Moon at the tail end of the sign, this one an eclipse (Sept. 21, 12:54 pm PT). Usually, New Moons are good for launching new things – but this one, falling at the 29th, or anaretic degree, has the feel of completion. And since the Sun and Moon are also closely opposed by Saturn, the air of finality is even stronger. Something that no longer works must come to a decisive end.
Yet the very next day, the Sun pops into airy Libra to launch a new season – Fall, for us in the Northern Hemisphere. As one door closes, another one opens. And it could be an auspicious opening, as the Sun makes a lucky grand trine with futuristic Pluto in Aquarius and brilliant Uranus in Gemini, and opposes visionary Neptune in Aries. This inspiring vibe will color the next three months of the upcoming season.
You may have already been in process of letting go to make space for something new since the Sept. 7 Pisces lunar eclipse. But Sunday’s solar eclipse is apt to clinch the deal. With the Sun and Moon opposed by Saturn, contraction energy is emphasized. Don’t be afraid to say No to things that no longer work. When the Sun (life force) is eclipsed by the Moon (feelings) at the tail end of a sign, something is done. Especially if you have planets in late Virgo, you may feel drained, so take extra good care of yourself.
Traditional astrologer Austin Coppock, on the Sept. forecast edition of Chris Brennan’s Astrology Podcast, notes that this eclipse activates the third decan of Virgo, seen by the ancients as a morbid place. He says that making the most of this time requires determination and sustained action, with a laser-focus on your goal. Realize you’re stronger than you thought you could be, he advises. Make a path where none existed and let go of things no longer worth putting energy into.
At this eclipse, Mars will be at the last-gasp anaretic 29th degree of Libra. This could mark an end to certain alliances or ways of thinking. But Mars also makes a quick transformation, sliding into Scorpio – the sign of its rulership – on the day of the Equinox. Then on Sept. 24, Mars squares Pluto in rebellious Aquarius, which can intensify events. Yet this volatile energy can be utilized to achieve great things.
The future is upon us – personally and collectively. But a significant door to the past must first be shut. Perhaps this will be done for you, as something or someone leaves your life. Or it might be your own decision to move on or finally break a bad habit. Either way, you can harness this energy so it works to your advantage – and that of the world at large. Even if things have been crunchy for a time, as they were for the engineers who were fired from Tesla, the opportunity to make a fresh start is at hand. Their success shows us that even the most dispiriting setback can lead to a game-changing opportunity.
