I am about to have my 80th birthday, and the future suddenly looms pale and uncertain. I do have some physical problems, such as arthritis, fatigue, and the possibility of a knee-replacement, but it’s my lack of optimism and joy in my life that hurts more. Now turning 80 brings up a lot of the past, good and bad. I feel handicapped to address this new aging due to my new older body. Perhaps it sounds corny, but what I visualize is needing a battery jump, like an auto with a dead battery on a freezing morning. I want renewal, help toward transformation in this passage. I long Io trust the universe, or whatever, move through me. At this age, it’s time to admit I can’t do it alone. Can you help me with this?
Dear Constance, What a lovely gift to give yourself—the flower essences–as you prepare to honor the anniversary of your 80th year of life on this Earth!
The flowers began presenting themselves instantaneously as I read what you are experiencing and want support for. All four flowers that showed up as possibilities are especially supportive for facing and being present with the many blessings and challenges of the aging process. Pay special attention to the names of each flower, and your first response to them. Your body’s wisdom will assist you in knowing which ones you are aligned with, and it may very well be all four of them.
Love-Lies-Bleeding—its name alone may stir the “hurt” you experience over your “lack of optimism and joy” in life. This beautiful flower essence will encourage you to look right into the heart of your suffering, whether the suffering is emotional or physical, and will assist in transitioning from a deeply personal and inward focus of pain and suffering to a more transpersonal understanding of the human condition, and to the deeper meaning and purpose of pain and suffering. It addresses melancholia, depression and isolation. If I had to recommend just one essence, this would be the one.
An exquisite companion essence to Love-Lies-Bleeding is Angel’s Trumpet. While it is most commonly called upon for the dying process, it is appropriate for all major life “passages,” and is especially effective for any call to “surrender.” You said, “I long to trust the universe, or whatever, to move through me. At this age, it’s time to admit I can’t do it alone.” Angel’s Trumpet is the perfect “universe” or “whatever” to “move through you” now, and will support you in redirecting your focus away from your physical body and toward your spiritual body or spiritual life. I received this essence during a time calling for profound surrender, and it was most powerful!
Constance, you said you “want renewal, help toward transformation in this passage.” These words led straight to the essence of Chrysanthemum which beautifully addresses the fear of aging and mortality, and the natural and essential shift from ego identification of one’s personality to the true spiritual ego or higher self. This is the essence that will bring acceptance to your aging process, and renewal to your spiritual life.
Lastly, the essence of Sage presented as a possible “toner” in your blend, encouraging the rich and meaningful process of “reviewing” your life, and experiencing deep inner peace and wisdom. This essence would address the “good” and “bad” aspects you mentioned from your past, assisting you in recognizing their meaning and purpose in your life.
I trust this bouquet of flower essences will empower you to face the challenges of your 80th year, and awaken you to the unique blessings available to you now as well. You might even consider receiving this blend all through your 80th year!
My most sincere birthday wishes for you—Jane and Flora
