It used to be the Moon was immanent–that is, present on earth in all the things she rules, including bowls. milk and bodies. Yet as civilization sprawled, the Moon, along with all the other gods, was chased into the heavens. Once the gods left, people learned to worship from afar, using middle-men priests, religious traditions, and books. Yet in each century, there was always a school or two of magicians, who developed the skills of drawing divinity back into our sphere. First the Chaldeans learned how to entice the gods into their statues. Then magicians of the middle ages and Renaissance learned how to draw the gods into amulets, tinctures, music and stones.
But what about you and me? If you’re drawn to visit this website, you likely love the Moon as much as I do. But we live in an age that having a real relationship with Her is a bit lunatic. How do we recreate her immanence? We can do what folk healers and women of the forest have done forever (although this method is rarely shared in the literature of indoor magicians). The truth is that a Full Moon finds water irresistible. That’s why She sparkles into every pool, stream, bottle, and ocean on Earth. So to draw Her down, to invite her in, that’s all you need: water, and your own willingness. Here’s a recipe you can use on the night of this week’s Sagittarius Full Moon.
The Easy Way to Draw Down the Moon
Pour purified water into a glass jar. Place it outside in the moonlight. Stay there awhile. Feel into the moonlight. Close your eyes.
Imagine that the Moon is descending and has become a glowing orb just inches above the crown of your head. Feel how the Moon’s light now enters your body, nourishing each of your chakras, filling your trillions of cells. There’s no right or wrong way. Your sensations are your sensations. Just notice. How does the Moon enter you?
Once you’re filled with the sense of the Moon, open your eyes. Slowly and lovingly circle your right hand in a clockwise direction over the water, nine times. Then do the same with your left hand, counter-clockwise, nine times. After that, over the jar, form a triangle with the index fingers and thumbs of both hands. Into the center of the triangle, pour your gratitude for the gift the Moon is bringing you.
Then wait a minute or two. You may or may not receive a message, perhaps an image, a word, or a sensation. After you feel complete, rub your hands together and shake them out. Leave the bottled water out all night, but retrieve it early in the morning, before it’s touched by the Sun’s rays. Drink it, cook with it, water your plants with it. Fill your life with the power of the Moon.
