Did you feel the June 5, 2012 Venus Transit? The love goddess was blessing us, as her energies filtered through the Sun’s rays to Earth. I felt like I was under a magical spell throughout the transit—and even made a date with a man who contacted me on a dating site at that exact time. However, I ignored the cardinal rule of Venus in retrograde, whether she’s transiting the Sun or not: These potent energies are for enhancing our own self-love, not for meeting new partners!
Predictably, the date was a bust. So, I read Mama Gena’s recent blog with interest. In it, the women’s empowerment guru admits to her unfulfilled yearning for a mate. How, she asks, do you stay spiritually alive when your desires are not yet fulfilled?
The answer, she says, is to recognize that the desire living inside you “is not just you, but a duet—between you and that which is greater than you. And this desire breaks you open, breaks you apart, and re-creates you into the woman you were born to become, that you never could have touched if you did not acknowledge or live your desire.”
The duet is symbolized by Gemini, sign of the Twins, associated with the Lovers card in the Tarot. Interestingly, Mama Gena (aka Regena Thomashauer) has both the Sun and Moon in Gemini. She instinctively understands the esoteric meaning of her sign—its call for union with the Divine. But she also acknowledges that the yearning can be painful, as it breaks us apart to birth us anew.
There is a great deal of Gemini energy afoot right now. Giant Jupiter has recently entered the dualistic sign of the Twins for a year, where it urges us to integrate our opposites. And, we’re about to experience a second New Moon in Gemini. The May 20 solar eclipse was at the very beginning of the sign, while the upcoming New Moon activates the final degrees.
The June 19 Gemini New Moon (8:02 a.m. PDT) sparks a breakthrough. As the “last gasp” of the sign, it reiterates the eclipse’s message about making a crucial choice. With Mercury (the Gemini ruler) square Saturn, one door is shutting so another, more productive one, can open. This applies to relationships, but also to how we treat ourselves. Adding extra potency, the New Moon falls just prior to the Solstice, as the Sun enters nurturing Cancer on the 20th and a new season begins. And, with Saturn turning forward on June 25 and Venus doing the same on June 27, there is no going backward. It’s onward and upward to greater fulfillment!
Though she was not referring to the current astrological cycle, Mama Gena nailed its deeper meaning. “Our desires,” she said, “are divine and precious, not only to us, but to the earth herself. We are the bearers, the carriers, the holders of the longing that has the potential to transform the world. If we can hold the thought that our little human body, the address of our eternal soul, is the keeper of the delicate flame of desire, then we can relax and fall back into the storyline of our lives, knowing that our yearning will carry us safely, and sweetly, in perfect time, to fulfillment of the desire in some more wonderful way that we could have ever dreamed.”
