Without consulting a calendar or reading the blogs, your body knows the Solstice is coming. It cares little for the latest war or fiscal crisis. What’s important to your animal body is that we’re entering a new season. It may not register the exact date (which this year is June 21), but your body is already noticing the approaching change. In the three weeks before and after new seasons begin, our bodies are adjusting—and they’re quite vulnerable as they shift into the new rhythms and temperatures. These are the weeks when people are most susceptible to infections. So pay attention!
Support your instinctive animal self. If you’re in the northern hemisphere, keep shifting your diet towards cooling foods like fruits and raw veggie salads. If you’re in the southern hemisphere, nourish yourself with foods that have cooked awhile (like hearty stews or soups) as this will bring supportive warmth into your body. Rest or exercise in the way that’s appropriate for you. You may have more energy: take advantage! Or you may want to pause. Whichever is true for you, your body will appreciate this loving attention.
