A friend of mine once spent a summer alone in the woods. By the end of that summer, she told me she knew which sign the Moon was in without consulting at a calendar. She could sense the moment that the Moon changed signs. You can too. You don’t need the MoonCircles website. Your body and intuition can tell you all you need to know about the Moon. But if you’re like most people today, living in a busy, hurried-up world, this innate Moon sense may be under wraps, like Sleeping Beauty behind a tangle of brambles, waiting to be kissed awake. My hope is that the articles and resources on MoonCircles can start to clear the brambles, so that the Moon will kiss you awake too.
The Moon means many things, but most deeply, most pervasively, she’s a timekeeper. Our ancestors knew this. Without clocks or calendars, they guided their plantings, their migrations, their doctoring, their home-keeping—nearly all facets of daily life—by the cycles of the Moon. They understood what we’ve forgotten—that time is not a quantity, but a living pulse, forever shifting tempo, inviting us to dance along.
In contrast, our view of time is much more mechanical. Clocks and calendars drain the life out of time—which means we’re frequently left tired and feeling like we don’t have enough time. Yet most of us keep moving, like the hands of a clock, assigning ourselves as many tasks as our day-planners can hold. We become mechanical too. But what’s far more rewarding is to slow down and sense time, to listen for its moods and opportunistically adjust our activities. The Moon can be an ally in this work.
The preferred way to learn today is to get information. And we offer plenty of information on our website. The day’s Moon sign and phase are always available on our “Today’s Moon” sidebar. Twice each month, at the New and Full Moons, we offer new articles from our contributors, a blog from Dana and a brief ritual to help you meet the moment. There’s a small library of Moon articles on our Moon Astrology page, including Dana’s “Seven Secrets to a Successful Moon Practice.” And there are articles about that other goddess of the Divine Feminine, Venus, in our Venus Salon. We offer several wonderful astrology reports and eBooks in our Store, and a monthly Moon workshop (delivered by email or snail mail) that can take you even deeper. All of this we offer in hopes that you become a lifelong Moon lover too.
