On September 20, 2012, “Gangnam Style”–the catchy pop video by South Korean artist Psy–was recognized by Guinness World Records as the “Most ‘Liked’ Video in YouTube History.” You gotta know that with something this popular, major archetypes are involved, in this case, the two lords of the hour: Uranus and Pluto, whose square has perfected twice this year and will continue over the next three years. Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in the revolutionary sixties; their square now ignites an even stronger collision between the status quo and the forces of change. Psy’s video has been called “subversive” (perfect Uranus/Pluto keywords) for its satire of the wealthy Gangnam lifestyle (Gangnam is a posh Seoul neighborhood).
If you know the archetypes, you’ll quickly see that Uranus and Pluto have taken more active roles in this video: Psy portrays them both! When he’s dressing in wild colors and odd outfits, he’s Uranus. In basic black with his cool sunglasses, of course, he’s Pluto (that’s also why he’s sitting on the toilet–the underworld lord rules this area too). Together through Psy Uranus and Pluto drive that awesome and infectious beat. The explosion in the middle of the video expresses the wild power that is running through the air these days. Well I must live under the rock next door to Deborah b/c I’d never heard of this either until just now! Thanks so much for sharing the video and your analysis. I think it’s fun and love the beat. but I would not have thought to connect it to what’s happening astrologically. That makes it all the more interesting. Well, clearly I live under a rock, because this is my first news of this! Ok, it was on a spanish tv station at the laundromat a week ago, but I had no idea what was going on…Anyway, I looked him up, and he is a Capricorn…wonder if his meteoric rise to fame has to do with pluto conj his sun?
