Nothing nourishes body and soul more than a Full Moon in a water sign—and that happens this week, with the Full Moon in Cancer. It amplifies the benefits of activities like deep cleansing (the skin or kitchen floors), dying hair or fabric (the color soaks in more deeply), and healing (the cells of the body absorb healing potions more readily). Especially for those in the southern hemisphere, this super-absorbent Full Moon can be a great for your garden. But even in the north we have houseplants. Offer your most nourishing potions.
But what about you? What do you need? Cancer is the Moon’s own sign. It’s an energetic temple for the sacred feminine. This is a good time to treat yourself like the goddess you are.
If, heading into this period, you’ve been feeling tired and off balance, the water Full Moon can initially increase your emotional or energetic confusion. Bodies can bloat with water retention. Retained water or energy can make us feel stuffed and lethargic. If you find yourself in this condition, the best remedy may be more water—in this case, the gift of water mixed with Epsom salts. A natural anti-inflammatory, Epsom salts have a seemingly magical ability to draw toxins, cellular waste, and excess water out of the body. This can actually reduce your thighs, arms and waist!
Last year I watched Dr. Oz demonstrate this with a willing audience member. Her measurements were taken before and after the bath. She lost inches! The bath water should be just below body temperature—between 97 and 98 degrees. Use two cups of the salt. Ten minutes in the bath is all you need. A perfect amount of time to close your eyes and contemplate the inner Full Moon.
If you’d like to connect to the Moon throughout the month in greater depth, if you like to journal and/or muse on your place in the celestial scheme of things, you may enjoy my enrolling in my monthly Moon workshop (by snail-mail or email). It’s designed to deepen your relationship with the primary guardians of natural time, the Sun, the Moon, the zodiac, and your inner wise one.
Indeed, my inner goddess says treat me with a loving, leisurely, joyful bath!
