Saturn enters Scorpio

By Dana Gerhardt

I’ve been waiting a couple decades for this!  I was born with Saturn in Scorpio, which means I’ll soon be getting my second Saturn Return. I slept through my first one, something I paid dearly for, as shortly after, my life fell apart. I didn’t know astrology at the time and was totally unaware of this important passage.  When Saturn returns to his natal position (every 28.5 years), we enter a new stage of life.  We can go kicking, screaming, or sleeping. Or we can rise to the occasion by doing what Saturn rewards: working hard, taking responsibility, respecting reality, claiming our authority, developing our mastery, and learning from our mistakes. I definitely learned from that mistake. It’s not wise to ignore Saturn! I’ve been preparing for this second return for the past two years, and I’m happy to report that so far this transit is feeling pretty good.  Do what Saturn loves and he does bring rewards.

If you were born between October 1953 and January 1956, you’re getting your second Saturn return too. If you were born between August 1983 and November 1985, you’re getting your first return. In either case, it’s a great time to consult your chart (or your favorite astrologer!).  If you weren’t born during these years, this is still an important ingress. Saturn will be bringing new Scorpio-themed lessons to everyone. Check the Scorpio zone of your chart.  Scorpio rules subjects most people don’t like to talk about: death, sex, and taxes; also  power, psychology, and magic.  So what does this mean? Imagine Saturn dressed in Scorpio robes, saying something like: “C’mon, be a grown-up about Sex. Death. Taxes.  Get realistic about the Underworld.  Face your inner demons. Find your authentic power. And become a master of magic.” That’s just for starters… Watch as some or all of these themes become increasingly important in the cultural conversation, and your own life.

Saturn is in Scorpio from October 5, 2012 to December 24, 2014; it dips back into Scorpio again from June 15, 2015 to September 18, 2015.

I love your work! I am 58 and 2nd Saturn return is coming this whole next year with 3 passes at 20 degrees in my 12th house activating my life long Tsquare of Saturn/Scorpio in 12th, Pluto/Leo in 9th, and Mercury/Aquarius in 3rd. Im an Aquarius with Scorpio Rising and Moon in Pisces… wanting to reframe the old interpretation or Saturn Return into something more expansive and uplifting and less fear base… unfortunately I am still operating out of “I dont want to screw this one up!” Any suggestions or insights would be so deeply appreciated 🙂
    Shine On…

Congratulations! You’re at the astrological threshold of adulthood. Expect to have to show up, be responsible, and realistic about your future. Chances are, since the transit was exact yesterday, it’s already been appearing in your life in some way.

Well, thanks. Realistic about the future. That’s very interesting. do you see anything in the chart that indicates the best, most profitable road to travel for overall success. Where should I show up to? I’m all over the place with interests and still unthethered.

I’ve noted with the ingress, a return to all things “80’s style” Sorry, just had to throw that in. I’m a Libra who was a teen in the 80’s and am just glad to have my leg warmers back.

I had a friend who had saturn in scorpio n his life is full of dead loves by the time he was 20, his dad, grandma, uncles n aunts all passed away. Now my son whose gonna be born on christmas eve 2012 will have saturn in scorpio. I need some advice how to prepare him. The most I’m anxious about is that fear of intimacy might be one of the issues. I’m here hoping to assist him in breaking thru these blockages. I hope he gets all the love he needs.

Mon Liu, I’m sorry to hear about the experience of your friend, but do keep in mind that everyone born in this two-and-a-half-year period will have Saturn in Scorpio, but not all will experience the same effects. I have experienced the Saturn-in-Scorpio fear of intimacy, but this has also brought an exquisite path for learning. As mothers, of course, we’re so anxious about our children. We want them to have smooth and happy roads. The Soul loves us too, but knows that smooth and happy roads do not give us the growth experiences we need. Mothers and souls have different agendas! There’s so much to be afraid of when you’re a mother, but fearing your child’s chart should be the least of your concerns. Your son will be born at the perfect moment for him, and his chart can be a wonderful guide for you throughout his life. Let it slowly unfold his mysteries. I can’t answer your question about the Uranus placement without looking at the full chart. But again, perspective is key. These are outer planet placements (Saturn and Uranus), which are not as strong in synastry as the personal planets.

    Dear Dana,

I have Scorpio 4th house, Neptune at 19.07.

Saturn entry into Scorpio has started with an increase in anxiety. I read your 4th house article in Astrodienst but would love to know more about your analysis of the Saturn in scorpio transit.

    Best wishes,

    Renata

Look at my next blog entry: Karla McLaren’s book is very helpful with the emotions. Anxiety is a signal worth paying attention to.
