Scorpio Full Moon: Be a Beautiful Godzilla

By April Elliott Kent

“The only way the gods know we’re asking for help is ritual.” – Caroline Casey

Taurus and Scorpio are the two signs of the zodiac that are most closely associated with money. So if your finances are strained or life just isn’t giving you enough of what you want, the Scorpio Full Moon is the perfect time for a prosperity adjustment.

The prosperity dance involves persuading others that you have something that is so valuable, they should give you whatever you ask in order to get it. Sometimes, this exchange flows effortlessly; other times, it’s as though there is an actual, physical obstruction between you and prosperity. That’s when you find yourself feeling broke – or at least, you don’t have enough money to do something that’s really important to you (like pay rent, for instance).

Does it follow that if others are not offering to pay you for what you have, it isn’t valuable? I don’t think so. But I have noticed that simply being a nice person and good at what you do isn’t enough. Those who are wildly successful have some quality of attraction or seduction that makes others want to work with them/buy from them/be near them.

Seduction relies on a kind of subliminal, mesmerizing persuasiveness. It’s characterized by the ability to hold others spellbound and desperate to please you. These qualities don’t come naturally to me; perhaps they’re not your gifts, either.

These are Scorpionic gifts.

But even those of us who are neither exceptionally attractive nor naturally seductive have Scorpio somewhere in our charts. And through Scorpio’s love of magic and ritual, conjuring and summoning, we can learn to seduce the invisible world into giving us more of what we want.

“The invisible world would like to help,” writes Caroline Casey, “but spiritual etiquette requires that we ask.” Ritual is the way we ask for help from the gods, but if you’re like me, you may not feel comfortable with solemn, formal ritual filled with prescribed incantations and possibly incense. In fact, I’m going to take Casey quite literally and assume that ritual simply requires that we ask for what we want—politely, respectfully, and winningly, while putting our best qualities forward.

So before performing whatever ritual you have planned at this Scorpio Full Moon, activate your most magnetic qualities. In your birth chart, these are represented by the trine aspects between planets in your chart. (Look for triangles in the little table at the bottom of your Astro.com chart.) Usually, there’s at least one. Trines describe what comes easily to you – blessings, if you will. The conventional wisdom is that too many trines lead to a lazy personality, but that a few can really grease the wheels and make life pleasant for you.

trines

For example, one of the happiest trines in my chart is from Mercury (the writing planet) to my Ascendant (the “front door” of your chart). Not once, but three times book contracts have dropped into my lap. I don’t consider myself a terribly lucky person, but given how many talented writers can’t get a single book deal, the fact that I’ve wandered into three—literally without trying—is kind of ridiculously fortunate.

I’m reminded of the Seinfeld episode in which Jerry is dating a very beautiful woman who gets anything she asks for. George comments, “Beautiful women. You know they could get away with murder….They get whatever they want whenever they want it. You can’t stop them!” Jerry agrees: “She’s like a beautiful Godzilla!” He soon learns to parlay his girlfriend’s powerful beauty for entrance to a sold-out movie and forgiveness of a speeding ticket.

That’s how trines work. They are beautiful Godzillas. So if you have planetary trines in your birth chart, send those planets to the gods to intercede on your behalf!

If you don’t know how to find the trines in your chart, don’t worry. They’re simply astrological symbols of the qualities that earn you compliments on a regular basis. “You’re so organized,” friends might tell you. Well, organize an excellent, precise, well-thought-out ritual. “You can always make me laugh.” Make the gods laugh—include a joke as part of your ritual. “Boy, can you put together an outfit!” Greet the gods gussied up in one of your most gorgeous ensembles.

If you were going for a job interview or applying for a loan at the bank, you’d put your very best self forward. Do the same with your lunar rituals. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone in my whole life who didn’t possess some element of charm or goodness. That includes you. In fact, because I’m always inclined to think especially well of my readers, you probably have boatloads of scintillating traits!

So at this Scorpio Full Moon, put those beautiful Godzillas to work for you. They symbolize the qualities that draw others to you and prompt the universe to shower goodies on you. Make them your ambassadors of spiritual etiquette, asking for everything beautiful, valuable, and satisfying that your heart desires.

Carol, if you also have a bunch of squares and oppositions, they will tend to balance out the trines. Otherwise, it’s really a matter of consciousness – constantly challenging yourself with activities and goals that require you to grow, instead of just settling for what’s easy for you.

I would like to ask please: how do you send your planets of planetary trines to intercede? By mentioning them? What should I do?
And they should trine our ascendant only? Trine Venus Pluto or Moon – Mercury?
    Thanks

Hi Katerina – Any trines will do! I guess I invoke those planets/points by trying to act them out or embody them in some way. If Mercury is involved, I will write out my ritual/intentions. If it’s Venus, I’ll beautify something; if you have Venus trine Pluto, you might make a “before and after” collage showing how you want to transform something in your life to be more beautiful. With Mars trine Saturn in my chart, I’ve been known to work up a sweat (Mars) moving stones and bricks (Saturn) into a makeshift altar in my backyard. Happy Full Moon!

“The only way the gods know we’re asking for help is ritual.” – Caroline Casey. Interesting theory, but I don’t agree. I also don’t believe I have to look a certain way or even “put my best foot forward” in ritual. The Universe/Great Spirit doesn’t care if I’m in a ballgown or dressed like a bum. I might be feeling charming, effusive and articulate, or I might be feeling depressed, clumsy, self-conscious. The important thing is that I show up, as I am. In fact, I feel that I am more richly rewarded by risking being vulnerable than if I were simply putting on a show and going through the motions in the name of “ritual”.

I’ve never been very good at ritual or meditation but I know the reasoning behind it is intention and mindfulness. If you can achieve that without the “motions”, cool. But “going through the motions” is not what a ritual is supposed to be no matter how many people perform it that way.

Astrologers use a variety of house systems, or methods of dividing up the sky into twelve sections. I use the Porphyry house system; another popular house system is Placidus (this is the default on https://astro.com). If the chart I send you looks different from what you are used to seeing, then likely a system other than Porphyry was used. Whole signs, Equal House, Regiomantus, and Campanus are examples of other systems. If you find all of this confusing, do not worry. It is likely not critical to your report.

m  Conjunction:  Like peas in a pod, planets in conjunction tend to come from the same place. They act together, but it’s also hard to tell them apart. This aspect can increase talent, focus, and intensity (“two are better than one”). Or one planet can disappear as the other dominates. Their connection feels so natural, it’s easy to think everyone blends these planetary energies just as you do—but mostly, they don’t!.

p  Sextile:  Planets in sextile are compatible, though without any fireworks. This aspect doesn’t demand your attention. It quietly presents an opportunity. You can join these archetypal forces. Donna Cunningham has called this the “Oh, that!” aspect, because that’s generally what her clients say when she describes their benefits.  To get the most from sextiles you need to actively work them.

q  Square:  Squares are wild and wonderful—but difficult too. The power struggle between these planets was likely defined in your youth, when they were impossibly challenging. People are usually aware of their squares. They force the issues that make you to grow. And that’s their gift. They ensure you learn your lessons. When you rise to the occasion, they bless you with energy, action, and success.

r  Trine:  Michael Munkasey has dubbed this the “goddess aspect” because it’s so lovely. Identifying talents you may have perfected in a previous life, trines can bring you joy. There’s a nice flow of energy between planets in trine. They support and reinforce each another. But without any struggle, you might take them for granted—neither using nor developing their gifts. An unattended trine can sometimes trick you into negative behaviors.

t  Inconjunct/Quincunx:  Your quincunx planets are innately incompatible. Bringing them into harmonious expression requires constant adjustments. This can be stressful, also motivating. You’ve got to keep changing your process, opinions or attitude—which promotes highly creative solutions.

u  Opposition:  They say opposites attract—and planets in opposition are never far from each other, though they’re constantly bickering. You may be triggered into awareness of this aspect by other people who seem to resist or undermine you.  An opposition can make you feel uncertain, insecure, or discontent, until you can accept and see yourself in both energies. Typically people find it easier to identify with one side and project the other onto unsuspecting others in the outer world.
