Especially this night–one of the noisiest Full Moons of the year–we need the deep and centering quiet of the Moon. I suggest giving yourself the luxury of nine minutes to hear Jessica’s reading of her poem. Read a poem on the Full Moon? It’s a litmus test, isn’t it, whether we’re still and patient enough to allow a poem to touch us. It requires our receptivity. So does sitting with the Full Moon.
For years this simple ritual escaped me. I became a “Moon expert” early in my career because with a 12th House Moon, I had very little idea of what the Moon was all about. I had to study her. The result was my Moonprints report, which people still tell me is so accurate, it gives them chills. I thought deeply about the Moon–but that was very different, I would later learn, from experiencing the Moon. And that’s what we really want to do. We want to touch into something living. We want a real connection with the Great Mother. Yet during my first ten years as a “Moon expert,” I had no idea this was even possible. Full Moon nights were awkward for me.
I’d sit in meditation, trying to lasso the Moon with my mind, from the neck up, vaguely wanting something from it, and feeling unsuccessful. Then sometime, as is true—when the time was right—after years of trying, I stumbled into it: a way of sitting under the Moon that felt sensitive and satisfying. No mumbo jumbo necessary.
That’s because thinking about it–even beautiful concepts like the Moon is earth’s oldest temple holding the potency of countless prayers since the dawn of time–doesn’t help. You have to sink your awareness lower than mind: this is what it means to get naked under the Moon. It’s a relaxed and spacious state. Once you locate it, you can snap into it again, instantly. And just as easily, you can snap out. So that’s the value of this universal terma: The Moon becomes a bell whose ringing brings you into the field of the Mother, where body and soul can quietly drink. But don’t think about it. Just enjoy.

I have also felt this …. this something more that I was supposed to feel and structured ritual left it a little lacking.
This last full moon I did naked Yoga! Moon salutations of different traditions under the moonlight surrounded by my Sacred Stone Circle, candles and altar. How amazingly connected did I feel! You gotta dance to the beat of your own drum to feel it for sure.
