Below is an excerpt from the findings of my Venus research (more info about that here):
What turns me on? Knowing that someone wants my company… Of course they’d also have to know I am ultra sensitive, especially my breasts.–GV
I don’t know how I can stop men from turning me into their caretaker/mother when I rebel so much against it. I want to be a lover more than anything. I enjoy mothering my kids, but that is enough. –VP
My body requires gentleness, consideration and reverence. It doesn’t like to be hurt, pushed, pulled or anything else that might cause discomfort. It doesn’t like anything that feels aggressive. –BW
Your Venus in Cancer desires to explore and embody the protective, nurturing aspect of the Divine Feminine. She’s kind and compassionate–and fiercely protective. She is the you inside that’s naturally loving, receptive, and strong. She may be comfortable walking up to someone she’s interested in and striking up a conversation, because she has a way of creating family. Venus in Cancer makes the world feel at home.
The cruelest thing someone can do to your Venus in Cancer is to withdraw from you emotionally. Abandonment is one of the most difficult sorrows to bear.
A feminine planet in a feminine sign
Your Venus is ruled by the Moon–the other feminine light. With a feminine planet in a feminine sign, astrologers get excited and say how nice. Your Venus has double the femininity. I’m not sure I agree with this. For one, it can make this placement uncomfortably sensitive. It helps if you develop good boundaries.
Venus and the Moon are at opposite ends of the feminine range… and when you fold them on top of each other, rather than doubling the femininity, you can get less… What happens is one goddess seems to dominate the other. With Venus in Cancer, sensuality can take a back seat to the rewards of mother love.
Even if your Venus in Cancer doesn’t have or want children, she’s likely into the things that cultivate life… growing a garden, creating nourishing foods, even building a business or indulging in creative projects.
Knowing how to please and be pleased
Venus in Cancer is typically very giving. But the biggest complaint with this placement was that she didn’t always know how to receive. As one man with Venus in Cancer put it:
I probably please others better than I am myself fulfilled.
What would the perfect lover need to know about my body? This is a difficult question. I don’t know for sure… There is so much more I need to discover about myself and my body!–CG
This woman was in her twenties. I heard something similar from a woman in her fifties, who (and god bless her) had just recently discovered what pleased her in bed! Your Venus in Cancer may be much more attuned to the presence or lack of emotional intimacy with your partner than the quality of the sensuality. But a Venus still has needs.
The raw energies inside your Cancer Venus
When astrology was a sacred practice, it was understood that life itself, our very bodies, were infused with the divine. The first astrologers knew the Gods as the powerful, vibrant and creative play of emotions running through their world. The gods appeared as sandstorms, thunder claps, bird song, floods, abundant harvests, calamities, shouts of sorrow and joy.
Gods are immortal which means we can still find them as the ancients did. Astrology can help. Signs point us to the raw energies that define each sign–the underlying element and mode. The element describes the dominant style of energy your Venus likes to run. This is her fuel. The mode describes her preferred speed. Together they suggest the sensory coordinates to use when dialing in your Venus.
Water
Cancer is a water sign. Water is shapeless, pliable, cleansing, and life-giving. Use your imagination to make these sensations more vivid. Imagination is the control panel that takes us into the invisible world. Imagine dipping it into a pool of water that’s just the right temperature for you. Feel how receptive it is to you. How easily it allows you in. It can warm you, cool you, refresh you, and restore you. Or it can pelt you with unwanted raindrops. Or gather in a torrent that can wash away your house. Water planets can sound like this:
I need to feel my feelings.
I’m a natural healer.
I care.
I’m secretive, self-contained.
I’m easily overwhelmed.
I’m the one who listens to the longings of the soul.
Drip, drip, drip. I can wear myself out with the unceasing drip of my feelings.
Imagining something is usually easier than doing it.
I tend to flow away from obstacles. Sometimes I float or drift through life.
Cardinal
This is the rhythm section–the bass line in your Venus song. With cardinal signs, the tempo is active, restless, on the move, like a busy mother. It likes to take care of things quickly. Find your Venus in energy that is alert and responsive to the energies of others in the world.
I’m ambitious and enterprising.
I’m fearless and competitive.
I may do too much too soon, and escape things before they’re really over.
Give me a crisis—anything—something! I hate being bored
It’s not that I like to argue—I just enjoy being right.
I create rules and I break rules–I don’t particularly follow them.
I’m great in emergencies.
I want what I want when I want it.
